Did Mozilla Have No Choice But To Add DRM To Firefox?

WingedEarth Great opportunity! (406 comments)

So Mozilla is taking its open source code down an unpopular path. Doesn't this just create a great opportunity for some enterprising developers to make a new fork for Firefox? Someone can announce a new, "Browser X". Tagline: "It's the same as Firefox, but without that DRM garbage."

Recalling Windows 1.0 At 25 Years

WingedEarth Re:Windows 1.0 was barely usable (384 comments)

I remember Windows 3.1. I used it once, and then never again, because it ate up too much RAM, and I was already a wiz at DOS. I've never heard of anyone actually having used an earlier version of Windows 3.1. As far as I knew, before Windows 3.1 and DOS, there was Commodore and Atari and Apple II E, and those weird looking Macintoshes, and nothing else outside of Joshua over at NORAD.

Chinese High-Speed Train Sets New World Record

WingedEarth Re:In the meantime, we in the USA... (267 comments)

Fast trains most certainly make sense for the USA, to connect major metropolitan areas at the very least. I should be able to take a train from New York to San Francisco in less than a day.

Unseen Moon Landing Video Released

WingedEarth Moon Landing: Special Edition (212 comments)

This new video shows the Moon Landing as the director originally wanted to portray it for American audiences, though the technology was lacking in 1969. The Special Edition of the Moon Landing includes more jawas and droids edited in to the scene seamlessly alongside Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin. The "One Small Step" segment now includes a dance number cut from the original release.

Microsoft Investigates Windows 7 "Black Screen of Death"

WingedEarth IT (351 comments)

Hello IT. Have you tried turning it off and on again? ... OK, well, the button on the side. Is it glowing? ... Yeah, you need to turn it on. Err, the button turns it on. Yeah, you do know how a button works, don't you? No, not on clothes. No, there you go, I just heard it come on. No, that's the music you hear when it comes on. No, that's the music you hear when... I'm sorry, are you from the past?

South Park Creators Given Signed Photo of Saddam Hussein

WingedEarth Re:Huh. (1297 comments)

No doubt the next generation will be watching Hollywood films that tell the official version of the story and how the kindly, just invaders gave Saddam a fair trial in which the evidence proved his guilt beyond doubt, and the outcome gives the beginning of a smile to a poor little girl whose family was killed by Saddam (or some other such nonsense).

South Park Creators Given Signed Photo of Saddam Hussein

WingedEarth Re:Huh. (1297 comments)

Mistrials? The trial was a complete mockery of justice. They put Saddam into a show trial where witnesses were hired to tell lies, his conviction was pre-determined, and he was thrown to a lynch mob. Kinda like the Nuremburg trials, actually. Oh yeah, and Iraqi people that could have shed some light on the reality of the situation were assassinated. Kinda like how General Patton was assassinated in Germany.

Valve Claims New Steamworks Update "Makes DRM Obsolete"

WingedEarth Is this better than Blizzard's Method (731 comments)

How is Valve's system any better than what Blizzard does with World of Warcraft? In WoW, everyone needs a monthly paid account to play, and the account can only have one user online at a time.

US Corps Want $1B From Gov't For Battery Factory

WingedEarth plant (394 comments)

Instead of building a new plant, why don't they just buy Ultralife, who makes most of the batteries for the military?

Review: Wrath of the Lich King

WingedEarth Re:Death Knight Mini-Review (545 comments)

It may have been nice to permanently be a Scourge character in the game, with quests involving raids of active Horde and Alliance towns, and skirmishes with the Burning Legion. In fact, it would be cool to see a phased version of a war between Scourge and Forsaken over the Lordaeron lands.

Review: Wrath of the Lich King

WingedEarth Re:fan favorite whats? (545 comments)

I agree. Murlocs are pretty irritating. I'm also not a fan of all the quests involving killing hundreds of wildlife. I mean, maybe those should be class quests for hunters only.

Australian Judge Rules Simpsons Cartoon Rip-off Is Child Porn

WingedEarth Re:Technically (612 comments)

That brings up a good point. Midgets have the bodies of children, no matter how old they got. So are naked pictures of midgets child porn, since they look like children? If not, then naked pictures of Bart and Lisa shouldn't be child porn either.

Rumors Flying On $20 Billion Microsoft Offer For Yahoo

WingedEarth Re:Why? (112 comments)

Microsoft buying Yahoo is kinda like Sears merging with K-Mart. Who cares? They're tired companies with tired, old business models. Microsoft's only good products are Word and Excel, and it has the industry chained to its Windows platform, so Microsoft will continue to make enough revenue to act like a hedge fund and buy up other companies. Yahoo is the Google that never evolved. K-Mart is Wal-Mart without the efficiency. And Sears is that great American company that is no longer really American (they import all their products) so no one really cares about them and their stores have no character and no appeal, so they might as well be another K-Mart.

Should We Clone a Neanderthal?

WingedEarth Re:Not animals (990 comments)

Why do we need to clone neanderthals? If they continue to make Seth Rogan and/or Will Ferrell movies, a majority of humans will devolve into neanderthals already. Cloning a wooly mammoth, on the other hand, would be great, especially for stews and barbeques. We'd just have to clone them with tender meat. And their wool would really help our textile industries resurge. And we can make tools out of their bones.

Cuomo proposes to throw film downloaders into jail

WingedEarth WingedEarth writes  |  more than 6 years ago

WingedEarth writes "New York Atty. General Andrew Cuomo has introduced new legislation to create strong criminal penalties on film downloaders (oddly referred to as pirates, as if they were using violence and/or stealing tangible goods). The penalties include up to one year in prison for first time offenders. Greedy corporate moguls cheer as the public is punished for its insolence. Artists move from Park Slope to Crown Heights, telling friends and family that, "The royalty checks will arrive any day now.""
