Could Humanity Really Build 'Elysium'?

WonkoS Re:Movie ad's disguised as science news? (545 comments)

Now now... Larry Ellison does happen to own an island in Hawaii, and I do think there was some discussion of him buying airlines that fly to Hawaiian islands... I'm still waiting for the skull shaped lair, er, mansion.

German Court Rejects Apple's Privacy Policy

WonkoS Re:To be fair (124 comments)

After all, car makers selling cars in the United States typically will build all of their models to meet California emissions standards, even if they are more strict than the rest of the country. Seems like a similar case.

Checkpoint of the Future Coming Soon To Airports

WonkoS Re:Well (373 comments)

Are you calling security theater and keeping the larger set of sheep from panicking and not flying impractical? We could fake it, but as you well know, any "fake" theater would be found out and backfire. Gotta make it look good. Anywho, all that radiation should be good for something, I probably need to tag the post with "and we welcome our new spidey-sensing overlords!"

Checkpoint of the Future Coming Soon To Airports

WonkoS Re:Well (373 comments)

Yes, but if the difference is more than an order of magnitude, and I suspect it may well be, then arguing that you are avoiding flying because of the radiation of the security checkpoint is just plain silly. Better to start some low altitude zeppelin service, remembering to use helium.

Checkpoint of the Future Coming Soon To Airports

Actually, you probably absorb more radiation from the altitude of the flight than any checkpoints.

Things You Drink Can Be Used To Track You

WonkoS Murder is easy.... (202 comments)

OK, so all you need is an identical twin gullible enough to drink water given to him by you during a trip you bought for him in NYC.... then you go and assassinate the president after having given your twin Washington DC water to drink while you guzzle NYC water at the scene of the crime. Do a quick getaway and finger your twin. The jury will convict in a new york minute.

Building a Homemade Nuclear Reactor In NYC

WonkoS Re:Uh Typo (219 comments)

You know, a working fission reactor has been done already... I think it's called the "sun". I believe the process goes something like this: 1) Place order for at least 2.0E30 Kg of Hydrogen 2) Wait for UPS/Fedex to deliver to your house 3) Wait for gravity to pull all of this Hydrogen together ..... 4) Profit!

HP To Acquire 3com For $2.7 Billion

WonkoS Re:FU HP (231 comments)

You were lucky.

We used to dream of paper plates.

Why, when I was a young man, our competitor would buy us out and the european union would step in and block the sale, causing mass layoffs and gutting the company beforehand.

Hyperdrive Propulsion Could Be Tested At the LHC

WonkoS Re:One More Thing... (322 comments)

We could aim it at the Moon and then the moon will move out of it's orbit. The moon and moonbase alpha would then wander aimlessly through various plotlines and eventually be canceled.

Barack Obama Wins US Presidency

WonkoS Re:Two words (3709 comments)

My favorite thing to hear on Fox was a discussion going on to do with the state of the economy, and how "we are only now seeing the full effects of the Clinton presidency". I about fell out of my chair.

It's been pointed out that Clinton was the one who relaxed the regulation around banking that in part lead to the bad loans, etc....

Presidents usually don't have that much to do with the state of the economy, but they can certainly use it to get elected, as has been demonstrated here and previously.
