Ask Slashdot: Communication With Locked-in Syndrome Patient?

XPeter Dasher (552 comments)

Dasher is a small software package (akin to notepad) that assists in typing without a keyboard. Maybe you could combine some sort of eye-tracking or morse-code system that can translate her eye movements into numbers and letters on Dasher?

This submitter has the typical Slashdot FOSS douchebag attitude. This case has NOTHING TO DO with open source software, yet you can always find a way to jam it in there eh?

XPeter Re:Enough is Enough (257 comments)

Not two or three, more like four or five now. SP3 was released in 08, and once 7 released, manufacturers made the switch.

It's been over a decade, guys. I understand there are legacy software needs, but you've had ample time to find a replacement.

Using Zillow's Creative Commons Neighborhood Boundary Data For the U.S.

XPeter Re:Zillow (32 comments)

Well what do you expect? Zillow can't view the interior of the homes they price, so they can only make an assumption based upon market trends and exterior features. How can you expect them to know whether or not you have new stainless steel appliances and mahogany floors versus only plastic stuff and dirty carpet?

Duke Energy Scraps Plans For Florida Nuclear Plant, Forced To Delay Others

XPeter Shame (233 comments)

It's such a shame that the far left has put such a stigma on nuclear power. All of the nuclear accidents in history have happened because of poor oversight, not to the fault of the technology itself. Oh well, I guess we can keep burning oil for the next hundred years.

27 Reported Killed In Connecticut Elementary School Shooting

XPeter Here comes the anti-gun crowd (2987 comments)

Seriously, you could "try" and take away all the guns...but if you really wanted one, you could always get one. Same with drugs, the black market is ALWAYS there.

And the libs always tend to forget that guns actually help save lies as well. I was reading an article not too long ago about a single mother who was sleeping with her newborn child, when she heard someone trying to break in. She grabbed her shotgun, and as soon as the two perps walked into the house, she shot them dead. Now if she didn't have her gun, she could've been killed and her baby orphaned.

Ask Slashdot: Starting a website in college?

XPeter XPeter writes  |  more than 2 years ago

XPeter (1429763) writes "I'm a freshman in New York looking for a way to start up an idea of mine. The general premise is to create a website that would connect people to find additional work aside from ones main job.

I have a team, and have started the groundbreaking, but one crucial question remains: How would I monetize a website like this? Should I host advertisements, or take a percentage of the job cost? Also, what payment methods should I use?"

It is unclear whether or not the rig is leaking oil into the waters, when it was spotted by a patrolling helicopter this morning. All 13 people on the platform have been accounted for and rescued."

Two big Blizzard releases in 2010

XPeter XPeter writes  |  more than 5 years ago

XPeter (1429763) writes "The speculation can finally end, Blizzard has confirmed that Starcraft 2 and WoW: Cataclysm will be released in 2010, with Diablo 3 following in 2011. Shacknews has the story http://www.shacknews.com/onearticle.x/60136 "Blizzard CEO Mike Morhaime has confirmed that just-revealed World of Warcraft expansion Cataclysm and StarCraft II are the two titles the company expects to hit in 2010"

Many hoped that Diablo 3 would be released with Starcraft 2, but this doesn't seem to be the case."
