Uber Is Now Cheaper Than a New York City Taxi

Xicor Re:And in other news (139 comments)

having to pay for a license to drive ppl around is ridiculous. in england, in order to be a taxi driver, you have to take a test saying you know at least 90% of the roads.... this is just plain dumb... we have gps for that.

FAA Bans Delivering Packages With Drones

Xicor Re:faa airspace (199 comments)

if that is true then that is a ridiculous amount of power for one organization. i figured they just had the ability to make rules over airspace that people actually fly in.. like 10k-50k ft in the air.

FAA's Ruling On Smartphones During Takeoff Has Had Little Impact

Xicor Re:wifi (128 comments)

actually, during takeoff and landing, most of us are still able to get internet. the issue i was complaining about is when you are up in the air, you no longer get cell phone signal to stream music.

Microsoft Takes Down No-IP.com Domains

Xicor Re:WTF (495 comments)

but thats the truth... if the laws says it is legal, sadly it is legal. the only way we can change that is by revolting against the lawmakers.

let me ask you this, what is the difference between murder and assasination/war? you guessed it! in the latter, the government says it is ok, in the former, the government says it is not ok.

The Supreme Court Doesn't Understand Software

Xicor Re:Why not patent compression algorithm? (263 comments)

that isnt the issue. the issue is that right now pretty much anything in software is patentable... hardware has much more difficulty. one example is that apple patented swipe to unlock... which is an idea, not an actual invention.

you cant patent an idea, you have to patent the thing that the idea represents.

NADA Is Terrified of Tesla

Xicor added cost (455 comments)

there is really no reason for tesla(or any car manufacturer) to sell to dealerships if they care about the consumer. in most cases, the manufacturers make x copies and sell them all to the dealerships. they dont really care if the end user likes them or even buys them because theyve already made their money.

in the best case scenario, everyone buys every car... but it costs the end user 10-20% more than the cars cost the dealerships. if tesla cuts out the middle man, they can charge the normal dealership price, but for everyone and still make the same profit.(this also makes their cars cheaper than the competition).

dealerships are outdated and are in need of destruction.

US Wants To Build 'Internet of Postal Things'

Xicor simple (113 comments)

the fix for the postal service is simple... dont send trucks to the middle of nowhere every day. in the cities, they are actually making a profit... but because they send a truck out every day to the middle of nowhere for one letter, they lose tons of money.

'Curiosity' Lead Engineer Suggests Printing Humans On Other Planets

Xicor Re:what is consciousness? (323 comments)

if you were copied... you and your copy would diverge, if one of you died... the other would still be around... but you would not survive in the other. one day you were walking around, you get hit by a truck, now you are gone... it wouldnt be one day you are walking around and get hit by a truck and now you are in the other body with the new memories and the old memories. the copy and you are two entirely different entities with the same memory up to a certain point.

'Curiosity' Lead Engineer Suggests Printing Humans On Other Planets

Xicor what is consciousness? (323 comments)

the idea of consciousness is the main problem with simply printing humans with a specific memory. if you copy someone with their current memory... the copy is now a new person, with his own actions. the main body and the new body have completely separate life after creation. if the original dies, the new one carries on. the idea of copying someone to teleport them is unsolvable before we figure out how to deal with consciousness, because that isnt 'me' on the other side, that is someone else who looks like me and has my memory.

Driverless Cars Could Cripple Law Enforcement Budgets

Xicor Re:Next target, please (626 comments)

i live in houston. ive almost never seen someone get pulled over for speeding unless they were swerving through traffic and someone called it in. if you go up or down 45 and you go through ennis, you get pulled over for going more than 65. they have 4 cops out there radaring 24-7.

Yelp Reviews Help NYC Health Department Find and Close Dirty Restaurants

Xicor Re:Bare handed food handling? (64 comments)

gloves are undoubtedly safer when used right... the thing is that generally speaking, people who dont use gloves dont wash their hands, and people who do use gloves dont replace the gloves after touching a specific food group.

between the two though, the people who dont replace gloves are not as bad as those who dont wash their hands

Driverless Cars Could Cripple Law Enforcement Budgets

Xicor Re:Next target, please (626 comments)

any dumbass can drive a car without speeding. the issue is that noone wants to because driving the speed limit is boring and takes too long.

driverless cars dont care. they drive the speed limit. if the laws eventually change to where you dont need an attentive person in the drivers seat, we will be able to play video games to make driving less boring.

Driverless Cars Could Cripple Law Enforcement Budgets

Xicor Re:Next target, please (626 comments)

they pull over great drivers for going 15 over on a highway and leave the assholes who dont know how the fuck to drive safely. driving 85 on a 2lane highway when noone is even there is perfectly safe. a testament to this would be that several highways in texas are starting to increase their speed limits every year. i can tell you one thing... people are not becoming better drivers.
