Voting System Test Hack Elects Futurama's Bender To School Board

Xupa Every. Single. Time. (210 comments)

Any voting system that can be hacked should be hacked. We need to see fictional characters elected to every office in the land until people figure out the results for real people have been cooked all along.

Yeah. That's definitely the most likely outcome of a rapid decline in the only source of cheap, dense, portable fuel.

I just saw you guys in Nashville. You look fantastic. It's impossible to believe you've been rocking out for as long as I've had a full-color range of vision. How are you both so amazingly well preserved?

Ask Slashdot: Best Long-Term Video/Picture Storage?

Xupa Re:Print (499 comments)

Modern inks and papers are acid-based and will not last as long as they used to. I recommend multiple backup options. For photos and videos, keeping a copy somewhere online is a good idea, and for your local storage do what I do - refresh your drives every couple years. I've got almost 20 years worth of archives on a drive I replaced in June. I'll be replacing it again a June or two from now.

Tokyo Subway Gets Lightsaber Handrails

Xupa Losers. (61 comments)

It doesn't matter how long you've watched Star Wars or how much you loved the original series. Anyone who still finds anything of value in the series after I, II and III is a loser in denial. You can't ignore the bad films, their taint is all over the originals. Then yeah, you've got lazy lard ass picking your pockets with constant re-releases of the "classics" only finding new ways to jerk them around. Just think "midichloreans" every time Obi Wan opens his mouth. It's still there. Stop worshiping this travesty, accept that it's terrible and get on with your lives. (And I say this as someone who fought flame wars over the right to be the only Han Solo on local Wildcat BBS's.)

I'm not looking forward to my data cap at all, but I am glad I renewed my contract last December. I get to keep my unlimited data plan until Dec 2012 and then we'll just see what happens.

Project Icarus: an Interstellar Mission Timeline

Xupa Re:Let's REALLY plan ahead (265 comments)

There is no such thing as warp. We will never travel faster than the speed of light.

A material that allows evergy to only pass one way seems like it would defy some sort of law of physics.

still not strong enough for the space elevator tether... so meh

going from XP to Win7 will be a nightmare and we all know it. It might just be easier to switch to linux desktops.

Srsly, science. Just give up. Focus on things Charlie says is possible, like computerized contact lenses. Or alien cloning.

What we're headed for is a smartphone like device hooked up to a pair of eyeglasses via bluetooth (or whatever) that have a heads up display in them. Eventually the phone will go away and be part of the glasses... then eventually the glasses will go away and be replaced by contacts. It's only a matter of time.

I want future aliens to come, find our database and raise me from the dead... so I'm all for this.

Nuclear Crisis Stopped Time In Japan

The Simpsons Reviewed For Unsuitable Nuclear Jokes

Xupa Oh come on now (374 comments)

Let's not overreact because god forbid a television network decides to show a shred of sensitivity of their own accord. Do you think anyone is telling The Daily Show not to make jokes about Japan? No. They are choosing not to. Right now some people might not find it amusing. This isn't censorship. It's called decency. If your point is that the show was written ten years ago, then calm down, it will be funny again later.

Microsoft hires Seinfeld for ad campaign

Xupa Xupa writes  |  about 6 years ago

Xupa (1313669) writes "Microsoft enlists Seinfeld for ad campaign: WSJ Thu Aug 21, 9:12 AM ET (Reuters) — Jerry Seinfeld will be one of the key celebrity pitchmen in Microsoft Corp's $300 million advertising campaign aimed at changing its image, the Wall Street Journal said on Thursday, citing people close to the situation. ADVERTISEMENT Seinfeld, known for his eponymous television sit-com, will appear in ads with Microsoft Chairman Bill Gates and will receive about $10 million for the work, the report said. The attempted image overhaul comes in the wake of Apple's "Mac vs. PC" ads, which feature a nerdy PC guy getting upstaged by a hip Mac counterpart. The new ads, likely to debut on September 4, is expected to use some variation of the slogan "Windows, Not Walls," the paper said. For its new campaign, Microsoft also considered a range of other famous personalities, including comedians Will Ferrell and Chris Rock, the paper said, citing people familiar with the matter. Microsoft was not immediately available for comment. (Reporting by Saumyadeb Chakrabarty in Bangalore, editing by Will Waterman)"
