Joining Lavabit Et Al, Groklaw Shuts Down Because of NSA Dragnet

Your Anus Mission Creep (986 comments)

The NSA and the security apparatchiks have the worst case of mission creep since Hitler took over the German Workers' Party in Bavaria.

Your Anus Headers are Facts (155 comments)

SCO tried to cornhole Linux over errno.h being similar to BSD. SCO lost for the same reason and also because they suck. Unless they abused headers to jam in a bunch of functions that might be "creative" (and that would be their content anyway), the headers should just be lists of facts.

NASA Ends Plan To Put Man Back On Moon

Your Anus Good (460 comments)

Constellation, particularly Ares, was a boondoggle that was years behind schedule and was never going to get us there. Now we can work on Mars and do it in a feasible manner. Commercial companies like SpaceX can handle the LEO stuff, and maybe even heavy lift. Also, it gets rid of ATK, who should have never gotten another contract after blowing up Challenger.

HP Reports Memory Resistor Breakthrough

Your Anus Re:Heat? (141 comments)

If this is going to replace the transistor, it's also going to be used like RAM. Perhaps they won't stack it in that case, but heat transfer will be an issue if they do. Maybe they can embed some heat pipes in the stack.

PayPal Freezes Cryptome's Account

Your Anus Goodbye Paypal (253 comments)

I closed my paypal account and told them their policies sucked when they asked me why. I opened a Gunpal account instead (it was started because apypal banned gun sales, but it's useful for any transaction).

Shuttle Extension & Heavy Launcher Bill Proposed

Your Anus This Way Leads to Failure (134 comments)

This is stupid. Even with the extension, there won't be any flights for at least three years, because there aren't any external tanks left in the pipeline. NASA will be stuck in the past, and we will never leave Earth orbit because we will spending our moon money on make-work projects.

Will it involve spraying black people with firehoses? Because they know how to do that in Alabama.

Apple's Trend Away From Tinkering

Your Anus No Hacking Tools for iPad (965 comments)

Of course there won't be hacking tools for the iPad. It's not going to be on sale long enough for hackers to get one. It's the new Apple Newton with less flexibility. Only hardcore iFags are even looking at it, and they think it sucks. I suppose someone will tear it down and start reverse-engineering it with a logic analyzer, but it's not going to be worth the effort. Even Apple has much better hardware already shipping. They should have made up a MacBook Tablet or some such.

China Slams Clinton's Call For Internet Freedom

Your Anus China DDoS (235 comments)

Given China's bottleneck of a firewall, I am surprised it hasn't been DDoS'ed. Routing their entire country through one node is an exploit just ripe for an attack.

An encyclopedia is more than simply a statement of facts. It includes essays and illustrations that have a creative aspect. Also it has a particular layout and artwork. That is what is copyrighted.

Behind the 4GB Memory Limit In 32-Bit Windows

Your Anus Re:Wa wa what? (756 comments)

Isn't DMA limited to 4GB on most devices? That would make it hard for a device to work with memory that is remapped. Linux does support 64GB with PAE on 32-bit, but the extra work to support PAE hurts performance. Even linux kernel folks recommend 64-bit when you get above 8GB or 16GB.

Disney-Hulu Deal Is Ominous For YouTube

Your Anus Re:Hulu actually works (133 comments)

I agree that Hulu is much better because it runs on Linux. It also has a better interface and it doesn't kick you out halfway through a long episode. I use it now instead of my VCR. Does ABC's website work outside the US? I'm guessing probably not. So, Hulu sucks, but no worse than ABC/Fox/CBS/whatever. Now, if you go through one of the anonimizer proxy services, you can fool Hulu into thinking you are in the States. Or you could just get the torrents like everybody else.

SpaceX Successfully Tests Nine-Engine Cluster

Your Anus Re:How long before the tree huggers complain (182 comments)

Which reminds me. Greenpeace has released a commercial decrying the toxicity of game consoles. It "stars" Mario, Master Chief, and Kratos. Trademarks for which they obviously don't have the rights. (Evidenced by the awful voice acting.) Worse yet, their claims are entirely specious, making bizarre and untrue claims about toxicity and lack of recycling. Hilarious in how bad it is, though.

The Greenpeace commercial is protected by that 'fair use' thingy that the EFF is always going on about. Specifically, they are using the characters for parody.

Somebody already covered the 60 Minutes segment on Executive Recycling destroying the town in China.

Your Anus Your Anus writes  |  more than 9 years ago I tried to install the L440GX board, and I found out my case does n't have enough of the little standoff thingies. I had to call Supermicro and beg for some, because they decided to use a custom design for their standoff. It a box-shaped piece with side tabs that snap into the chassis. You press them through. Everybody esle uses the plastic slide jobs or the threaded brass hex-shaped pieces. On another note, I read part of the manual, and it only uses 1 GB of unregistered DRAM. If I want 2 GB, I have to use registered DRAM. I will try what I have anyway.

Your Anus Your Anus writes  |  more than 10 years ago

I have an Supermicro P6DGU motherboard with a burned trace. It's on the Ultra-Wide connector. I still have SCSI stuff connected, but it's acting flaky. Termination? Also having trouble booting custom Linux kernels.

I found a replacement board on eBay, but I also found an Intel L440GXG motherboard (need it for the 1 GHz PIII's). I got the Intel board, and I am bidding on the Supermicro board. I also got a back plate for my Intel board, and I am getting a 20-to-24 pin power supply adapter.
