The scientologist view on psychiatry is not an accident, or a fetish. They utilize brainwashing techniques when acquiring converts, and exposure to a trained psychologist would risk deprogramming. How better to protect your brainwashed followers than to train them to hate and fear the cure?

It's hard to get equal time considering the material.

SCOTUS To Weigh Smartphone Searches By Police

Zaphod-AVA Stick to the purpose of the search (201 comments)

The reason why police can do a simple search of a detained person, and look inside containers, is to ensure the safety of the officer. It is a light search to ensure that the detained person is not armed. Until I can install a weapon on my cell phone, looking inside it as if it were a 'container', is obviously abuse.

A Plan To Fix Daylight Savings Time By Creating Two National Time Zones

Zaphod-AVA I just use DST all the time. (545 comments)

I just use Daylight Saving Time all the time. I'm fine with everyone else being wrong, as long as it gets dark at 5:30 on the shortest day of the year instead of 4:30. Dark at 8am? So what, 8am sucks anyway. Worried about school kids? Set their schedule so they have an 8 hour day that always has daylight in whatever region you are in.

The Reporter's Fifth Amendment Paradox

Zaphod-AVA Protecting the press (452 comments)

When discussing rights held by the press, there is additional reason to allow them to remain silent. Upholding the ability for the press to protect their sources has a compelling state interest, in that empowering them to investigate criminal activity is in the public interest. Once you start compelling the press to divulge their sources, people stop talking to them.

Scientists Study Getting an Unwanted Tune Out of Your Head

Zaphod-AVA It happens when you don't know the end. (219 comments)

I find that songs that are stuck in my head are ones that have a repetitive section, but I don't know the end of the song. To get a song unstuck, I sing a song that I know from start to finish (out loud if possible, in my head if not) and then distract myself.

For me the most successful song for this purpose is the Muppet Show Theme.

The return of Autoduel

Zaphod-AVA Zaphod-AVA writes  |  about a year ago

Zaphod-AVA (471116) writes "Pixelbionic is assembling the car combat dream team to bring back Autoduel. Zack Norman (creator of Interstate 76) has joined their advisory board.

From their press release:

Pixelbionic was founded to create spirited games such as Autoduel that are ignored by publishers, leaving the door open to independent developers supported by fans of the genre. Autoduel development funding will be crowdsourced, with a Kickstarter campaign launching soon.

"Our mission is to assemble a team of car combat visionaries to deliver the game fans want to not only play but also help create," said Pixelbionic co-founder and President Mike Arkin. "Autoduel pairs the vision of the best talent in the industry with the enthusiasm and support of gamers, a combination we are confident will set the bar for what can be achieved in a new PC vehicular combat game.""

Adobe pulls Flash update support from Ninite.

Zaphod-AVA Zaphod-AVA writes  |  about a year ago

Zaphod-AVA (471116) writes "Adobe has asked Ninite to stop providing updates for Flash Player.

Keeping Flash up to date is critical in maintaining a secure desktop. By removing Ninite's ability to support Flash, they are making desktops less secure, and perpetuating the malware industry's abuse of Adobe's product. Let's make Adobe aware that we want more good options for maintaining the security on the systems we support.
