Manga Images Depicting Children Lead to Conviction in UK

Zelucifer Re:Distasteful stuff, but should not be illegal (466 comments)

Virtually all studies conducted about pedophilia have a huge, glaring flaw:

They're conducted on convicts.

You can find plenty of information showing that criminals on average have a lower iq, shorter, etc.

California Man Sues Sony Because Killzone: Shadowfall Isn't Really 1080p

Zelucifer Re:It is 1080P (286 comments)

Vary, yes. Vary does not mean "is not possible". I'd say he has a good shot of winning a class action suit against Sony.

California Man Sues Sony Because Killzone: Shadowfall Isn't Really 1080p

Zelucifer Re:It is 1080P (286 comments)

I'm confused. You're saying they're not delivering what they advertised, and yet they should win? How do you think that works.

The FBI Is Infecting Tor Users With Malware With Drive-By Downloads

Zelucifer Re:LOL (182 comments)

What about I2P and Freenet. I haven't followed either in years, but AFAIK they're still around and used. Of course I believe both of them are darknet only.

Microsoft Won't Bring Back the Start Menu Until 2015

Zelucifer Re:flame away, but... (516 comments)

It isn't that Windows 8 in general is terrible, it's that the UI is horrendous. Things that I used to be able to do by clicking a button now require me to stop my workflow and load a full page "Metro". Yes there are workarounds and once you do so, Windows 8 is very good.

The Sudden Policy Change In Truecrypt Explained

Zelucifer Truecrypt - Based in the US? (475 comments)

Is there any proof that the contributors are even in the US and thus subject to a NSL? At least one of them seems to be from the Czech Republic (David Tesaík).

German Court Rules That You Can't Keep Compromising Photos After a Break-Up

Zelucifer Re:Ramifications (334 comments)

She gave him consent to take them. Her consent is only needed for that single instance, as once those photos are taken, he owns them. She's essentially claiming property rights on something he owns (in this case, intellectual property). Just because it involves her being naked, does not change that fact. As long as the photos stay private, they should be his to do with as he pleases.

If that was indeed the scenario, why not just delete the account in question?

Google Glass Is the Future — and the Future Has Awful Battery Life

Zelucifer Re:Google glasses (473 comments)

That's actually incorrect. On public property, in the USA, people have an unabated right to record, regardless of permission. Obviously there are exceptions, such as shoving a camera in your face, stalking, etc, however I can record you in public as much as I like within reasonable limits, even with your expressed desire that I stop. What I can do with that footage is however, more limited.

World of Warcraft Character Becomes Campaign Issue

Zelucifer Re:I bet.. (381 comments)

Just level 85? At this point 100 hour, potentially 75. No way of knowing how many years that was spread throughout, as the game has been out for 6+ years now.

Google 'Wasting' $16 Billion On Projects Headed Nowhere

Zelucifer Re:Shareholders want to buy... (408 comments)

What? I have heard nothing to that effect, and Google's own engineer perk page still lists it (http://www.google.com/jobs/lifeatgoogle/englife/index.html).

The Lytro Camera: Impressive Technology and Some Big Drawbacks

Zelucifer Re:New medium awaiting new aesthetics and explorat (220 comments)

It's actually a useful portmanteau of professional and consumer, distinguishing an area of cost and feature above that of a typical consumer and below that of a professional. Usually used in reference to serious hobbyists.

A Memory of Light To Be Released January 8, 2013

Zelucifer Re:Finally (228 comments)

Minor nitpick, the wind blowing is one of the most important themes in the series. It has an extremely strong connection with the wheel turning.

Aderall Or Nothing: Anatomy of the Great Amphetamine Drought

Zelucifer Re:Ah, central planning. (611 comments)

There's a different between being Hyperactive and being uncontrollably hyperactive. A normal child can sit still, while a child with ADHD is physically incapable of such an action. If you had done more than cursory reading on the subject, it is immediately evident that there is a difference in degree.

DHS Sends Tourists Home Over Twitter Jokes

Zelucifer Re:Joking about this is the height of stupidity. (709 comments)

The jokes in question were not made in the airport. They were made much earlier, while still in Britain. DHS just ran around like a chicken with its head cut off. The inability to confirm whether "destroy" is British slang, or that the other tweet in question was a Family Guy quote is absurd.

Ask Slashdot: Techie Wedding Invitation Ideas?

Zelucifer Easter Eggs (399 comments)

Assuming your friends and/or relatives are also into technology, why not keep the card relatively simple, but throw in an easter egg or two? Just as an example, embed a RFID chip and have it setup to react to NFC's embedded in phones. Include a subtle hint on the card, and perhaps make a puzzle out of it.

US Judge Rules Defendant Can Be Forced To Decrypt Hard Drive

ViaSat Delivers 12 Mbps+ Via Satellite

Zelucifer Re:Speed of light says the latency will be bad. (245 comments)

There's a fun mental glitch that occurs while typing and subvocalizing. If your typing speed exceeds your subvocalization, you suddenly realize how incredibly out of sync your mind and body are. Similar to deja vu.

Controlled Quantum Levitation Used To Build Wipeout Track

Zelucifer Re:Um? (162 comments)

The technology exists though and from what I've seen isn't incredibly difficult (although I may be misinformed) to replicate, so I have to wonder why they didn't do so.
