Behind the Great Firewall: What It's Really Like To Log On From China

Zemran Re:You Can Help (90 comments)

TOR quite simply does not work in China. I find it hard to understand why so many people here cannot see how easy it is to recognise protocols connected with TOR, VPN, Proxies, etc. and block any user that uses any forbidden protocol. None of these things work, not because they block the hubs or the addresses but because the they block the protocols.

China Prefers Sticking With Dying Windows XP To Upgrading

Zemran Re:Microsoft is running out of milk cows (333 comments)

I have always found their hardware to be of much better quality than their software. Their software is not as bad as a lot of people say but I prefer OSX etc. I have had several M$ mice and keyboards in the past and have been very happy with them.

China Prefers Sticking With Dying Windows XP To Upgrading

Zemran Re:Why (333 comments)

For someone that already has XP, the cost has already been paid and there is no future cost. If you try to force such a user to upgrade they will quite understandably object. Very few people who are being coerced feel a loyalty to the person (or company) that is coercing them and would rather go down the market and get a copy...

Intel Linux Driver Now Nearly As Fast As Windows OpenGL Driver

Zemran Re: woo (113 comments)

Linux is not crap on the desktop in any way, it is crap as a games platform. Not everyone (OK the majority but still not everyone) wants to play games all the time. Some people actually want to have a reliable work platform and for that, Windows is crap.

Disabled Woman Denied Entrance To US Due To Private Medical Records

Apart from the obvious mistake regarding the book being written prior to the medical condition in question, are you honestly suggesting that the DHS can read?

An Anonymous US Law Enforcement Officer Claims US Wouldn't Arrest Julian Assange

Zemran Re:Sure... (399 comments)

but yes, I do take your point that if it is a war, then it is still ongoing. Except that those that were not part of the war are still there as well as the soldiers that we lied to.

An Anonymous US Law Enforcement Officer Claims US Wouldn't Arrest Julian Assange

Zemran Re:Sure... (399 comments)

The Taliban, the government that we overthrew, still have offices, still exist, are still there to talk to, and will take over again as soon as we leave, and we will leave one day. There is no option. I do not like to get into these discussions because I do not like to defend the Taliban. I oppose all they stand for but we invaded their country and they defended bravely. I hope that I would be as brave if my country was invaded. We then dropped leaflets that said "if you surrender, you will be sent home". And those that were stupid enough to surrender were sent to Guantanamo along with lots of other poor unfortunates who got sold out because the CIA offered bounties to anyone that could inform on a terrorist, so every bent policeman in Yemen and Pakistan etc. gave the name of someone they did not like and received $1000.

Have you installed TOR on a winders box recently? It is not complicated and certainly does not need a geek to help you.

A War Over Solar Power Is Raging Within the GOP

Zemran Re:Fucking rednecks (1030 comments)

You are right, and meanwhile China is pushing solar power all the way and if the US does not move fast China will be the winner (again) and the US will be the loser.

An Anonymous US Law Enforcement Officer Claims US Wouldn't Arrest Julian Assange

Zemran Re:Sure... (399 comments)

I would be interested to learn why you think you "know" that Bin Laden was a "leader" and that he "approved" attrocities. It is only G.W.'s propaganda that would give you that impression and if you think about some of the other facts that he produced like Saddam's WMD you would realise that his "truth" is doubtful. If you research further you will find lots of reason to doubt the story of Bin Laden. Why was he such a welcome guest in the US? etc. etc. I do not think you "know" anything, you just believe the propaganda like good follower. If he had been brought to trial we may have found out some facts. That is why they killed him.

An Anonymous US Law Enforcement Officer Claims US Wouldn't Arrest Julian Assange

Zemran Re:Sure... (399 comments)

"Fair enough... but then why do you still go to war? Why did you come and fight in Iraq with us then? That war was pointless."

Because your boss bribed our boss and made him very rich. The British people went out onto the streets of London in what must have been one of the biggest demonstrations ever (over 1,000,000) because unlike the US, most British actually follow events and could realise beforehand that there were no weapons of mass destruction.

It is a classic example of why democracy is as BS as the rest.

An Anonymous US Law Enforcement Officer Claims US Wouldn't Arrest Julian Assange

Zemran Re:Sure... (399 comments)

"Would you say that was unjustified?"

Yes, because that made it murder. If they were not ready to give him a trial they should not have gone after him. You accept that he is the evil nemesis only because the people that made billions from a war, told you he was. Without that fair trial, he was an innocent man and shooting him was murder. He was unarmed when they entered his bedroom, there was no need or reason to shoot him. They should have given him a fair trial so that the world could see the man to be who they claim he was. Now it all looks like a lie.

So SuSE 9 came out and my copy was delivered promptly. I am a SuSE advocate and admit my bias. I tend to buy every other version rather than religiously getting each release but this time, although I have 8.2 I thought that this was something new. I mean to say, it had a new number.

Well I was wrong. It was really SuSE 8.3 with a bit of a spelling mistake on the box. I like it, it is good (like 8.2 was) but it is not a significant change. I use on-line update and think that there is nothing in SuSE 9 that could not have been supplied using the on-line update.

I do not like to grumble too much (OK, anyone that knows me will know that I love to grumble :) but I feel like I have been had. In the blurb they go on about how much they have done to improve the upgrade procedures for those switching from Windows to Linux... but are they doing this at the expense of their loyal followers who already have Linux on board?

I think it is fair for me to rant as I have been an advocate of SuSE since v5 and some of my friends have become SuSE users (therefore generated sales). I have stuck up for them against many who object to YAST etc... I think that they should always return that support by considering their loyal supporters. Calling this an new version when the main changes are for Windows users indicates that they see new users as more important than loyal users. OK, maybe I am going to far but that is how this release has made me feel even if it is not how they intend it.
