Ask Slashdot: Best Way to Learn C# For Game Programming?

ZenMatrix Re:Udemy (254 comments)

Udemy has 12 courses(https://www.udemy.com/courses/search/?ref=home&q=c%23) up there and they have big sales all the time. If you can get some for $10, it might be worth it.

Has anyone actually used these. I've looked at some of the courses but haven't been able to bit the bullet even with some of the deals they do.

Yahoo's Diversity Record Is Almost As Bad As Google's

ZenMatrix Is this really worth looking at (435 comments)

I understand "WHY" they look at these numbers, to make sure there is no unfair practices going that would limit someones chance to get a position at these companies, but trying to have been numbers does the same thing. No I don't have any supporting information, I just think its common sense if you hire based on the diversity numbers you denying someone else that opportunity as well. I don't know much about these studies, do they look at the area these companies are based on. While there probably a even mix of men an women, some areas would have an uneven mix of different races. I would like to see is if an area is 65% African American and a company only has 1% of its employees of that race. The other issue is colleges, what are the local colleges diversity numbers, and are they higher or lower then local companies.

How the Internet Is Taking Away America's Religion

ZenMatrix I was an atheist before the internet anyway. (1037 comments)

The internet just spreads information.... and much as disinformation quicker then normal. So maybe its starting to show the farce that the current religions are, Don't get me wrong I love religon, it helps set moral values that people wouldn't already have... and for the most part it works. The problem is the people who misinterpet or change them to fit a few. They are generally the ones who hate the internet or things that spread knowledge since they don't want there hidden agendas discovered.

1GB of Google Drive Storage Now Costs Only $0.02 Per Month

ZenMatrix Re:Yeah, you can totally trust your data... (335 comments)

And that durability comes at a cost, if you want there standard service 2TB costs 170/month. You could use there glacier storage and that would be about 20 a month but that would be difficult and take a long time to restore if you don't want to pay more. They say "Glacier is designed with the expectation that restores are infrequent and unusual, and data will be stored for extended periods of time. You can restore up to 5% of your average monthly Glacier storage (pro-rated daily) for free each month. If you choose to restore more than this amount of data in a month, you are charged a restore fee starting at $0.01 per gigabyte." So if you need a large portion of it be prepared to pay. http://aws.amazon.com/s3/prici...

Ask Slashdot: How Do I Change Tech Careers At 30?

ZenMatrix Re:Follow your fascination (451 comments)

Yeah I'm 31 going back to school to get a CS degree since I couldn't stand technical support anymore. I would be more concerned if you where 50 getting close to retirement.I do see people in some of my classes that are in their 40s and come from widely different backgrounds. So 27 is a good place to start.

Ask Slashdot: How Do You Manage Your Passwords?

ZenMatrix KeePass (445 comments)

I like KeePass it uses a database file that you can copy manually and you don't need to sync, or you could place the file on a dropbox share and use it from there. The file is encrypted and you need to enter a Master password each time. If you ever needed to give someone passwords you can export just the ones you need to share and set a new password so they can use it. Its been my favorite one to use since I use crazy complex passwords for everything online.

EA's Dungeon Keeper Ratings Below a 5 Go To Email Black Hole

ZenMatrix Re:Works for Slashdot as well... (367 comments)

Honestly something that's controversial drives traffic to a site, which is good for slashdot. Some sites do stuff like this just to get attention. A better option is to boycott. and don't do it for just a few days. Give it months so when there is no one visiting the site then they would get the point better. Thats what I'm going to do the day I'm forced to use that new format.

guys seriously I think beta is stupid... but all the anti Beta posts are ruining this site more then that is. I come here more for the comments then the stories since they tend to have a better concept of the story then the poster does.

UK Council To Send Obese People 'Motivational' Texts Telling Them To Use Stairs

ZenMatrix Re:BMI (225 comments)

Yeah BMI isn't a hard number to go by, there are many factors that can affect it. Generally speaking if your overweight you know it... you don't need some number to tell you. I'd rather see labels disappear and just focus on what you need to do to stay healthy. http://www.cdc.gov/obesity/dow...

Microsoft Relaxing Xbox One Kinect Requirements, Giving GPU Power a Boost?

ZenMatrix Re:Still lightyears off of today's PC hardware (220 comments)

This isn't exactly on topic, but the reason I have a console is to play games that everyone is on equal footing. With PCs your generally pay for better performance, its ALOT more easier to cheat, and you have a bigger chance of running into problems due to incompatability. The only advantage you could really have on console is a better internet connection but lately that seems to be more of a handicap. Now choosing between the major consoles, I can't really consider nintendo based on the library of games that I like to play. I've had a xbox 360 for awhile and have been "considering" and xbox one just because its what my gamer friends have. I think thats a big consideration for most people, personally I'd rather have a PS4 because of some of the exclusives they have, but I buy games to play with people I know. In general I'm happy to see them trying to get more out of the system without paying more, unlike Sony in the past took out features that you already paid for.

Linksys Resurrects WRT54G In a New Router

ZenMatrix Re:Cost? (310 comments)

The problem with this is to find a card that works well with linux and supports using it as a access point not all do. Also I've built a router as well and the amount of space even a mini itx may be too much for your needs. I ended up just getting a regular router in the end

School Shooting Prompts Legislation To Study Violent Video Games

ZenMatrix Come get me now (1168 comments)

I've been playing call of duty since it came out, I've played almost all of my friends also have played these, I also play paintball where you shoot people for real so I guess that's worse. I've never owned a real gun and don't want to. This is the so stupid, you might as well get rid of movies, books, theater, newspapers, and any type of media. Then you might as well lock up anyone who witnessed a violence because they would be affected by it as well and might go crazy as well.
