Microsoft Lync Server Gathers Employee Data Just Like NSA
And a log is being kept about it? Who'dathunkit? *Groan* This isn't news.
Thor: The Dark World — What Did You Think?
Subject. While it does clock in at two hours, it does seem to come and go a bit too quickly. Most importantly is the "rivalry" between Jane Foster and Sif being hinted at (twice), but never going anywhere. At times, Loki stole the show in terms of just being there and while he's a joy to watch, I think he's going to be a bit too overplayed.
Still, movie is balls to the wall hilarious at times, (*SPOILER*) especially when we see Loki as Captain America. Overall I think the first Thor was better but this one was certainly pretty awesome.

Ask Slashdot: What Are the Hardest Things Programmers Have To Do?
I'm a developer and I would put this up as the hardest thing I have to do. Since I know the guts of why and how something works, I tend to have a really hard time writing particularly helpful User Manuals to other people. There is no group within us that spends time writing manuals (so I have to do my own) and it does require me throwing the manual at somebody somewhat unsuspecting and hoping it makes sense to them.

But who on slashdot thinks a short interview with Saki Fujita (Hatsune Miku) would be interesting?

Why Is Microsoft Setting More Money On Fire With Surface 2?
We just got done saying GTA V's cool $1 Billion was awesome, so why is this judged by a different standard? $150 Million can't mean that much.
Though, I was hoping for the removal of Surface RT and having all devices be "Pro". That would have them devastate the market, but they won't seem to do it.
Fracked Shale Could Sequester Carbon Dioxide
Let's not bury our problems. Instead, let's bury some tree saplings and have them sort this carbon dioxide problem out.

The Physics Behind Waterslides
How heavy are you? I know some of the tube slides at BB tend to cause hydroplaning problems with people too light to properly break the water's surface tension. Perhaps your level of inertia is causing your airborne lift.
UN Says: Why Not Eat More Insects?
I assume this is the problem. One grasshopper provides enough for a small snack by itself. An entire cow can feed dozens of people. Which leads to the problem of efficiency. Try to harvest the good bits from an insect, then try again from a cow.
Are Contests the Best Way To Find Programmers?
A contest isn't enough to hire somebody. If you want the best, you need somebody who can do more than just code. People skills are what set apart wizards from the efficient.
Cliff Bleszinski: Vote With Your Dollars
Free-to-play and pay entrance fee then microtransactions can both work, while a huge buy-in also works. What people are complaining about with EA is that they took (are taking?) a huge buy-in game THEN tacking the microtransactions on top of that. Paying $60 (or so) for a game then having to pay more for in game resources is ludicrus (Incidentally, there is a game I own that does exactly this, and it's not from EA). Paying $20 then being able to buy cosmetic items and side-grades (Team Fortress 2 before it went Free) is much more excusable because the cost to enter is so much lower. World of Warcraft (and other MMOs) don't cost $60 in entrance fees then your monthly, the entrance fee can be as low as $0.
Feel free to vote with your dollars, but when games are full priced new and locking out content already provided, then you can complain out the world.

Got any news story citations for this? I think it would be interesting political ammo to carry around.
