NSA WhistleBlower Outs Himself

Zeroblitzt It was only a matter of time (860 comments)

I mean, the NSA is monitoring all communications, right? So it was only a matter of time before they found him out anyway. At least this way, there is some publicity, and people know "his side" of the story before he is disappeared to some mysterious American prison. It's a shame that we are so willing to admit that is his fate, but I really so no other outcome.

Zeroblitzt Music industry (612 comments)

What is your opinion on the music industry - that is, do you like the direction it's gone in (some would say downloads were inevitable), or would you rather see it evolve into something different than what we currently have?

Vint Cerf On Human Rights: Internet Access Isn't On the List

Zeroblitzt The right to communication (398 comments)

Human beings have a right to uninhibited communication with themselves, other humans, and even non-humans. This is somewhat covered by the United States First Amendment to the Constitution, but it's not explicitly stated, which leaves grey areas. You would think that we wouldn't need to "cover our asses" as a country, but look at what happened with slavery. It was never explicitly stated that slavery cannot happen (even though it interfered with the lives of countless others), until the 13th amendment.

Zeroblitzt Not to rain on the parade... (103 comments)

But couldn't this be a terrible thing? And it was effective even when people didn't know they were learning. Translation: It will eventually fall into the hands of someone not-so-nice (politician, corporation, etc.), and suddenly we will "learn" that they are good, or we should buy their product, or elect them to be our leader, etc.

CmdrTaco: Secretly Steve Jobs. Thank you and all the other editors & readers that make this amazing site possible. This is going to sound harsh but hopefully you won't be missed - I feel that if the other editors aim to do their jobs at the bar you set, Slashdot will move above and even beyond what it is already. Thank you once again!

Espionage In Icelandic Parliament

Zeroblitzt Re:Wikileaks == scapegoat (274 comments)

Wikileaks just waits for others to the gathering, they just do the publishing Don't forget the taking-all-the-credit part, that takes effort.

If contributors do not want Wikileaks to release their documents and take credit for it, then they should not be going to Wikileaks in the first place.

Zeroblitzt Zeroblitzt writes  |  about a year and a half ago

Zeroblitzt writes "It seems that recent enemy-of-the-corporations has announced details of Megaupload's successor. The URL will shortened simply to, and Kim promises that the new site will be "Bigger. Better. Faster. Stronger. Safer". While he promises "We deliver", only time will tell if this is another file locker pipe dream. (note — site under heavy traffic currently)"

Ask Slashdot: Finding a job in IT without a CS degree?

Zeroblitzt Zeroblitzt writes  |  about 2 years ago

Zeroblitzt writes "I am a recent graduate of a small, liberal arts college in Pennsylvania. I majored in Music Recording Technology, which makes for a great hobby and is truly my passion, but I'm often left wondering if it was the right choice in today's economy. Technology has always come naturally to me, so I have oft wondered if the IT field is a possible route. Is it even possible to break into that field without years of hitting the computer science books hard? Or, should I continue to invest in my education so I can make such a career choice later?"

Arizona congresswoman among dead at grocery store

Zeroblitzt Zeroblitzt writes  |  more than 3 years ago

Zeroblitzt (871307) writes "'At least 12 people were shot at a Tucson grocery store on Saturday, and U.S. Rep. Gabrielle Giffords was among them, a Democratic party source told CNN.

Giffords, 40, was holding a constituent meeting at the grocery store when the shooting occurred, according to a schedule posted on her website.

CNN could not confirm conditions for Giffords or any of the others wounded, but the Tuscon Citizen newspaper was reporting that Giffords was shot in the head.'"

Lifehacker contributor Bill Zeller's suicide note

Zeroblitzt Zeroblitzt writes  |  more than 3 years ago

Zeroblitzt (871307) writes "'Bill Zeller was a talented programmer whose work we've featured on Lifehacker. He took his own life on Sunday and left an explanation that I think it's important you read.

Zeller was a victim of sexual and psychological abuse. It's clear from his writing that the abuse left him unable to interface with the world in any way that didn't leave him feeling he was too sullied to have the same experiences that he thought others had. He had a self-described "darkness", which despite his prostration it's clear he handled more ably than perhaps he ever realized.'"

Zeroblitzt Zeroblitzt writes  |  more than 3 years ago

Zeroblitzt (871307) writes "A lone gunman in Panama City, Florida opened fire during a Bay District School Board meeting on Tuesday. The man, identified as Clay A. Duke, ordered all but the six Board members to leave the room. Superintendent Bill Husfelt tried reasoning with Duke, but he eventually opened fire, missing each shot he made, before being wounded by a security officer and committing suicide."
