UPS: We've Been Hacked

ZiakII Re:LOLCam (62 comments)

Ugh I should not try posting on mobile, the above was supposed to say. I disagree it's usually organizations who don't care who never find out they've been hacked. If they do what you are proposing most companies will attempt to just sweep it under the rug. That's when it really becomes bad for the customer.

Google Receives Takedown Request Every 8 Milliseconds

ZiakII What do they consider a take down request? (155 comments)

What do they consider a take down request though? For the website I administer for my job I just submitted 60 take down requests using the Google webmaster tools this morning as our Chat Form Page got incorrectly indexed (robots.txt error on our part) and we want our customers to go through the contact reason page first.

These are legal requests but are they counting these in that number?

eBay Compromised

ZiakII Re:link? (193 comments)

Better yet, just logged into my ebay acct. and there's NOTHING in the communications there either.

Slashdot, now with less actual news and information, but nearly 100% sensational!

I understand reading is hard so I highlighted the important parts for you.

eBay Inc. (Nasdaq: EBAY) said beginning later today it will be asking eBay users to change their passwords because of a cyberattack that compromised a database containing encrypted passwords and other non-financial data.

If you are in NJ you can do your own state taxes easily through their website for free. Did it on both TurboTax and NJ and they equaled the exact amounts.

College Grads Create Fake Tesla Commercial That Elon Musk Loves

ZiakII Re:Lemme posit this... (100 comments)

Because, when it comes to car commercials, ad agencies are bound by so many rules and regulations regarding depictions of reckless driving and such things that it becomes almost impossible tp create a cool car commercial without running the risk of going to court over it (both the ad agency AND car manufacturer).

What the hell are you talking about.... I just watched a car commercial where a woman jumped on top of a moving train with a car.

Unmanned 'Terminator' Robots Kill Jellyfish

Well they are spineless and therefore stand for everything I stand against and stand against for everything I stand for. By launching a global offensive we can wipe the jellyfish out. If we hit that bullseye, the rest of the dominoes should fall like a house of cards. Checkmate.

Jury Finds Google Guilty of Standards-Essential Patents Abuse Against MS

ZiakII Re:Nice summary (278 comments)

Ah I read the revenue wrong that was Q1 (17.41 billion) = 2012 total was $73.72 billion. Which is still 5.5% which is inane.

Jury Finds Google Guilty of Standards-Essential Patents Abuse Against MS

ZiakII Re:Nice summary (278 comments)

"22%? um 2.25% as an opening bid with the normal ending point of 1.2% or 0% depending on cross licensing agreements. At no point was there a 22% offer on the table.

MSFT revenue for 2012 is 17.41 billion
Motorola had demanded Microsoft pay annual royalties of up to $4 billion

4 / 17.41 = 0.22975 = 22.975%

"Another example of the loaded, pro-MS language that has become the standard in Slashdot lately. :( "

"Exhorbitant demands"? Really?

Being asked to pay 22% of your total revenue for a video codec is not exorbitant in your world?

Ubuntu Edge Smartphone Funding Trends Low

ZiakII Cheaper Options.... (251 comments)

They really should of introduced some cheaper options. Like support the Ubuntu Edge for $60 and get a Ubuntu T-Shirt. Possibly include some other options that are not a staggering $700+ for most people.

Blackberry 10 Sends Full Email Account Credentials To RIM

ZiakII Re:Wow ... (191 comments)

So either RIM feels they should have this, or they're really stupid.

There is no reason to send your email credentials to RIM ... the local device needs it, but I can't think of a single defensible reason to send your credentials to their servers.

Why do companies feel they're entitled to this kind of information? Pretty much everyone who owns a BlackBerry should be asking if they can really trust the device.

Looks like you have no clue how RIM e-mail works on Blackberries. Just copy and pasting a quick summary on how their e-mail system works. "Unlike other PDAs, the BlackBerry device does not log into your email account for you, and check for new messages. This pull type email is best related to having a Post Office box. It requires physical action on your part to go and check your mail. You have to get up, drive in your car to the PO Box location, open it up, check for new mail, get back in your car, and drive home. All this time you are expending time and energy. What happens if you are unable to check the box due to the store/post office being closed? You have to wait until the next chance you get, and then check. As you can see this is not a very time/energy efficient way of doing things.

On the other hand, if you had someone to bring your mail to you, a Postal worker wouldn’t that be a better alternative? All you have to do is sit at home and when the mail arrives you have it. No need to do anything, no need to go anywhere else. This is how the BlackBerry architecture works." (Example From Crackberry.com

For a site apparently loaded with Computer professionals its astounding how many here do not know how BlackBerry e-mail works.

AOC's 21:9 Format, 29" IPS Display Put To the Test At 2560x1080

ZiakII Re:NOPE! (217 comments)

You really should consider eBay if you are looking for a decent monitor. I picked up a 27 inch 2560 x 1440 for $265 that uses a Samsung IPS LED panel. Search for QX2710. I got mine shipped straight from South Korea. The bezel and the circuit are of low quality but the actual LED panel is the same as Apple Cinema Monitors. The monitor lacks certain features HDMI port for example and it only uses DVI and you need a high end video card as the monitor needs a video card to do the conversion. But for the $265 that I paid I think this was a complete steal and worth it so far.

Bill Gates Regains the Position of World's Richest Person

ZiakII Re:Something is wrong (311 comments)

He was saying with inflation. as $3.70 is equivalent to $22.17. Although he is cherry picking data and only applying inflation to the worker and not the CEO. As a CEO making $500,000 in 1970 would be about 3.2 million in 2012.
