DEA Lack of Data Storage Results In Dismissed Drug Case

Zrako Re:Let's get real here, DEA. (242 comments)

Face it - the DEA is either lying, completely full of bullshit, or so hopelessly incompetent they should all be fired.

Or all of the above ;)

Khan Academy: the Teachers Strike Back

Zrako Re:And the unions are pissed... (575 comments)

Don't forget that $25 per hour figure does not add up to $50000 yearly because they do not work 12 months a year. It actually adds up to around $36000 a year which is below the median US income.

Khan Academy: the Teachers Strike Back

Zrako Re:And the unions are pissed... (575 comments)

I don't think you appreciate how much teachers really make, especially if they've been there for a while. Teachers get some of the most generous automatic raises you'll ever see, can get all kinds of salary bonuses for becoming nationally certified, etc. I used to work for a school district in an area where the average income is around $35,000/yr and some of the senior teachers in my district were making very close to six figures. The principals even more. They're hardly the poor street urchins the unions sell them as.

This is only if your school district does not have a freeze on raises like every single school district within 40 miles of where I live. With the budget crunch in education teachers are not getting their automatic raises for time spent teaching or advancing their education.

Khan Academy: the Teachers Strike Back

Zrako Re:And the unions are pissed... (575 comments)

I don't think there is anything preventing them from working in the off season. Just another form of seasonal worker like lifegaurd or Mr Plow.

So a working professional with a Masters degree should have to get a "summer job" as a lifeguard or in retail in order to survive the summer? Does any other line of work that requires a college degree require a summer job like they are a high school student? Give me break!

On the iPhone and Apple's Meteoric Rise To the Top

Zrako Re:Daft Punk, Not Kanye (317 comments)

"Better, faster, stronger," Apple could have easily lifted those Kanye West lyrics for their press release announcing the coming of the iPhone 3GS in 2009.

*facepalm* Sorry, I know its a minor detail, but Daft Punk originally wrote "Better, faster, harder, stronger", and Kanye sampled it (with permission) for his song. They have a cameo in his video, which is an awesome tribute to Akira for those that haven't seen it.

*watches Daft Hands and Daft Bodies on youtube*

Thank you. Daft Punk FTW

On the iPhone and Apple's Meteoric Rise To the Top

Zrako Whether you like Apple or not... (317 comments)

The sales and profit figures for Apple in the smart phone industry are pretty impressive. I'm surprised other companies haven't adopted a similar business model with a limited number of phones.

Ask Slashdot: Good Low Cost Free Software For Protecting Kids Online?

Zrako FYI this is all FREE (646 comments)

As others have metioned you can use the OpenDNS FamilyShield settings (http://www.opendns.com/home-solutions/parental-controls/) with your router which will block out the majority of adult content out there. I would also enable safe search on google for each computer (http://support.google.com/websearch/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=2519950&rd=1) which will filter out adult image and web search results and make sure you lock the settings so they can't just go in and remove safe search (http://support.google.com/websearch/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=144686&rd=3)

Forgot to mention that :D

Study Shows Teen Gamers Like Tech, But Don't All Crave IT Jobs

Zrako Dungeons and Dragons Video Games/Computers (227 comments)

Since when does playing a game with paper, pencils, dice and figurines constitute the use of computers or technology? A better analogy would be:

"If you think playing endless hours of Call of Duty will create a desire to get into the information technology, think again.

The Poor Waste More Time On Digital Entertainment

Zrako Re:constructive activities? (515 comments)

Such families often accumulate PCs, gaming consoles and smart phones, but use them only for nonconstructive activities.

Find me a constructive activity to do with gaming consoles and smart phones. Stack them up like blocks? Practice marksmanship? Learn circuit bending?

How about being a kid and having fun with your friends outside of the 8 hours a day you are at school and the 4 hours a day you are doing homework?

Technology Makes It Harder To Save Money

Zrako Re:Maybe a good thing (320 comments)

I did the same thing until my brother handed me down his iPhone. Now I have a wifi-equiped smart phone without the additional data plan or increased price of my cell phone service (T-Mobile). It's more convenent now because it's all in one device but I really don't need the additional data plan. I have wifi access just about every where I go except work and do I really need it at work? No. I think more people could do well to keep their smart phones and just cut out the data plan and use wifi instead.

FBI Warns Congress of Terrorist Hacking

Zrako Re:Depends on definition of terrorist (243 comments)

Giving up your Rights and Freedoms won't make you safer, only less.

This reminds me of one of my favorite Ben Franklin quotes:

"They who can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety"

The correct number of shoes to own:

Zrako Re:It's easy for men (502 comments)

I know I have two pairs of athletic shoes and two pairs of cleats. One athletic shoe for concrete type environments and a pair of cross trainers that work better off road. Then with the cleats I've got a pair of metal baseball cleats and a pair of all around plastic cleats (a lot of sports won't let me wear my metal cleats). I really should have more pairs of athletic shoes since I rarely have a pair that lasts more than a year. I’m really active and beat the tar out of my shoes. So that would be 4 pairs just for athletic activities. I also have a pair of skate shoes because they are super comfy for casual wear (a remnant of skating as a kid), a pair of dressy casual brown shoes for work, a pair of dressy casual black shoes for work and a pair of super shiny/dressy black dress shoes to wear with my suit and, very occasionally, my tux. So for me it is 8 pairs of different varieties.
