Black Sheep Blackberry Blackballed By Business

abhi2012 Wait till they come up with the OS 10.... (349 comments)

I had a glimpse of what will be in store for users with Blackberry 10 at a seminar held in our school by RIM and I daresay it does have the potential to be in the league of Androids and iPhones.

Ask Slashdot: How Can I Protect My Android Devices From Hackers?

abhi2012 A few tips.... (295 comments)

1. Put bluetooth in invisible mode unless you require somebody to find it. 2. Don't put the devices you add on auto send/receive. 3. Try putting an antivirus with a firewall. There are quite a few on the market. 4. Ask the network admin (of the WiFi at your home) to disallow listing of devices on the network. I suppose that should get you started.

CmdrTaco Looks Back on Fifteen Years of Slashdot

abhi2012 Thanks for creating a legend (178 comments)

Thanks for creating slashdot, a place where I feel the most comfortable to read nerd news. Its clean, simple and is definitely by a team who understands the concept of a technology blog. Its really sad to leave something one has created and nurtured for so many years but I suppose that's the fact of quite a few products in the market now.

abhi2012 Does it really matter (266 comments)

Apple is going to release a slightly bigger version of the iPhone in 6 months anyway and you are going to throw your old phone out the window. So does it really matter anyways?

Indian Minister Says Telecom Companies Should Only Charge For Data

abhi2012 VOIP should also be made legal in India (177 comments)

I think VOIP services should also be made legal in India. Consider if we had something like Google Voice there. The operators can earn from data and in the meantime calls would be free as well.

Indian Minister Says Telecom Companies Should Only Charge For Data

abhi2012 Re:subsidize phone calls (177 comments)

Unlike charging a huge amount by the minute and virtually no "unlimited" packs, the government can shift to unlimited packs and charges on mobile data like we have here in the US.

Google Docs Ditching Old Microsoft Export Formats On Oct. 1

abhi2012 Huge setback (199 comments)

That's a huge setback. Like it or not most offices use Microsoft Office and if I had to save that all important excel sheet on the cloud because I'd like to edit it on the go, it would be totally useless if I can't export it to a MS Office suitable format.

MIT Researchers Show Dash Font Choice Affects Distraction

abhi2012 Nice find but.... (147 comments)

That's an interesting find but in my personal opinion when it comes to driving I think the more voice based it goes, the better it is. Looking at dials and screens is always distracting and more often than not can prove fatal.

abhi2012 writes "Noah Kagan, a former Facebook product manager, has written a brutally honest article about how and why he got fired from Facebook in 2006 and what he learned from it.
The experience must be particularly painful, given that it eventually cost Kagan a $100 million fortune."

Is Samsung aiming for a smartphone running Tizen

abhi2012 abhi2012 writes  |  about a year and a half ago

abhi2012 writes "Samsung might be aiming for a smartphone running Tizen, an opensource OS aimed at handhelds and car infotainment systems. Tizen recently went to Alpha, opening up its code (https://source.tizen.org/release) for developers to look at. A quick look at its 3-tier architecture (https://source.tizen.org/documentation/architecture-overview) suggests its somewhat akin to Android's architecture and will also consist of a bunch of API's making the life of app developers easier. According to the article in ITWorld, the WiFi has recently passed a Samsung Device running Tizen which could mean that we can expect a smartphone running Tizen in the probable near future. Fingers crossed :)"

UT Dallas student and amateur astronomer catches a rare astronomical wonder

abhi2012 abhi2012 writes  |  about a year and a half ago

abhi2012 writes "Hall may be the only person in the world to capture a video of an apparent object hitting the planet Jupiter. The impact created a bright fireball on the planet that lasted only a few seconds, but catching the event resulted in several hours of fame for the unassuming Hall. He has uploaded the video on his flickr page at http://www.flickr.com/photos/19299984@N08/7976507568/ and his website contains more information regarding the same: http://georgeastro.weebly.com/jupiter.html."
