Department of Justice: FBI Too Focused On Child Porn

acalltoreason Re:Bureaucrats (487 comments)

That is an incredibly ignorant statement. You are saying that a lifetime of harm to a defenseless child isnt worth it? Further it is not the FBI's job to protect our inrastructre, that is the job of CyberCom. The FBI investigates federal crimes. As for pedos not doing much harm in the big picture? I honestly don't know if that was meant to be flamebait or what.

EFF Advocates Leaving Wireless Routers Open

acalltoreason correct me if im wrong... (686 comments)

...but wasnt there an article here on /. about some guy who was arrested because he left his AP open and someone else DLed CP? Ya, anyone who doesnt secure their APs/routers are just plain ignorant, regardless of what the EFF says. That is unless you get a second ap and put it in a DMZ and then put your personal AP behind the FW. But really, does anyone want to go thru the extra work so someone else can siphon your bandwidth? I think not.

acalltoreason Nice IT guy (1307 comments)

You have a pretty nice IT guy. If you were at my place of business, a university, you wouldn't even get it on the network. If all your IT guy wants is basic access, not even root, give it to him because he's cutting you a break.

IT Graduates Not "Well-Trained, Ready-To-Go"

acalltoreason THis isn't news (609 comments)

Of course, it's common knowledge that the only reason to get a "high-tech" degree is to earn more money at your job. You still have to either find a mentor or learn all the shit yourself, there's no way around experience, especially with technology.

Kids Who Skip School Get Tracked By GPS

acalltoreason Big Brother (515 comments)

Wow, talk about an invasion of privacy. I realize they are kids, but they have rights too. Plus, and I realize I have to solid arguments to back this up, but this is just wrong...while being truant is not an ideal course of action for the kids future...its not going to work, if for no other reason that it relies on a KID remembering to imput a code 5 times a day. If I were any of the kids in this pilot program, I'd tell them to shove it.

Saudi Students In US Seek Segregation By Gender On Facebook

acalltoreason Re:America (353 comments)

Yes, pick and choose certain points and then turn them back to completely dilute the message and mix in insults, you sound like glen beck. My point was the idea behind the action, not the actual action itself, which is harmless. I'm not going to waste my time explaining philosophy to someone who has no interest in learning and expanding their horzons. Also, I am a Master Mason and Kinght Templar, I know ALL about societies that don't let women in, there are societies that dont let men in either, they are called sororities. For those of you who do care, my post was about the mentality of the people living in the United States, who think they still need to separate themselves, I'm not saying force them, but let them know they have the option. See how I did that without insulting you clearly simple minded gentlemen? It's called being a mature adult...learn. If you want to go on about signatures as well? Whats this about Without the Death Penalty there can be no justice. That is clearly an ignorant, illogical statement. The death penalty is just our way to temporarily feel better and to provide an outlet for anger, i actually does no good whatsoever, costs the state more money than incarceration and most importantly was born out of situational morality.

Saudi Students In US Seek Segregation By Gender On Facebook

acalltoreason America (353 comments)

Dont get me wrong, I believe that everyone has a right to their own beliefs, but segregation is something that is not in keeping with the American spirit, a land where all men (as in the human race, not the gender) are created equal. If you want to segregate yourselves fine, but not in this country. I realize that people will say that they have freedom of religious beliefs; yes they do, they have the freedom to not be ridiculed for anything they believe. The segregation of women is NOT a religious obligation, it is a social choice.

Sensor Measures In Fingertips If Driver Is Drunk

acalltoreason Re:over 9000 (549 comments)

I don't buy the hunger issues claim. Having been to actual 3rd world countries and seen actual starvation, then coming back to the states and seeing that obesity is one of the major problems our underclass faces... I just don't buy it.

Yea, you may not get to eat the best tasting food every meal, and you may not get as much as you want, but nobody in the US who isn't a victim of neglect is starving.

That is possibly one of the most ignorant statements you can post. So let me get this straight, because there are obese people in the US, no one is struggling with hunger? I live about 5 minutes from a neighborhood of mansions, does this mean then that homelessness is not a problem? Further, we are not dicussing 3rd world countries, we are discussing the usefulness (or lack thereof) of a BAC analyzer. You are employing a common tactic used by the news media, Fox News in particular. You try and redirect the argument because you have no valid point to add. "...but nobody in the US who isn't a victim of neglect is starving" - the only thing I can say to that is Bullsh*t, did you even follow the link i provided? Or did you just get diarrhea of the keyboard? You, sir, are ignorant. I say that not as an insult but rather as a definition. To make definitive statements when discussing human behavior (yes eating is part of a humans behavior, try using Google) is one of the most ignorant mistakes you can make.

Sensor Measures In Fingertips If Driver Is Drunk

acalltoreason over 9000 (549 comments)

Seriously, we need to stop holding peoples hands. Think about the number 9000..it is roughly .003% of the US population. Instead of spending all that money on a statistically useless product why not help the 49.1 million US residents living with hunger issues (http://www.frac.org/html/hunger_in_the_us/hunger_index.html), or the 1 million people (min) in the US with cancer http://www.cancer.org/acs/groups/content/@epidemiologysurveilance/documents/document/acspc-026210.pdf. The point is that this does absolutely NOTHING to help anyone. So the in-car breathalyzer takes a few seconds...big deal. Its not worth waisting money on something so useless that .003% of the US would be affected by it. People die, that is the natural order of things, some earlier than others, you need to deal with it and move on. And before some ignoramus starts to whine about insensitivity because they lost someone to a drunk driving accident, everyone has problems and everyone has lost someone, you are in no way different from any other human on this planet, existentially speaking of course.

Microsoft Says Kinect Left Open By Design

acalltoreason oh right (215 comments)

I'm sure they are just trying to save face.

But Microsoft isn't taking kindly to the bounty offer. "Microsoft does not condone the modification of its products," a company spokesperson told CNET. "With Kinect, Microsoft built in numerous hardware and software safeguards designed to reduce the chances of product tampering. Microsoft will continue to make advances in these types of safeguards and work closely with law enforcement and product safety groups to keep Kinect tamper-resistant."

Former Military Personnel Claim Aliens Are Monitoring Our Nukes

acalltoreason Re:Occam (498 comments)

Well I can't argue with someone who believes every conspiracy theory he or she hears. I am a Freemason, I bet you believe everything about them too. Most UFO (any object in the sky that cant be identified is a UFO) sightings are a result of X-series Air Force aircraft. X meaning experimental. Occam's Razor does not cut in the other direction. What is more plausible. Aliens are secretly monitoring us and blowing up our nukes? Or that someone, on Earth, has created and is testing an anti-nuke system.

Former Military Personnel Claim Aliens Are Monitoring Our Nukes

acalltoreason Re:Doubtful (498 comments)

It has nothing to do with the fact that I don't know something, in fact I have no problem admitting I don't know something. What I was saying, if you bothered to think about my post instead of immediately looking for what is wrong with it, is if you apply occam's razor, chances are it isn't aliens.
