Piracy Offers Heavy Metal a New Business Model

aekafan Re:Maybe, but... (246 comments)

Actually, during the 90's, Iron Maiden kind of sucked. When Bruce Dickenson left, they they weren't as good without him. And his solo career got nowhere without them. In 2000, he returned though, and ever since they have been even better than they were in the 80's. Now, over their past 4 albums, they have shown that they are one of the best Prog-metal around. It's been a great comeback

Construction Firm Balfour Beatty Considers Drone Workers

Go read Nancy Kress' novel Beggars in Spain. She had an answer to that question, and probably not not one you would like. When those in power realized they no longer needed the underclasses, the lower classes were eliminated. With prejudice, outside the US, at least. Seems grimly plausible to me.

Snowden Is Lying, Say House Intelligence Committee Leaders

I have to say that I have been on /. for a decade or more now, and this the most moronic post I have yet had the displeasure to read. Good job sir, and good luck with your blind trust in authority. History shows that it has served humanity so well.

Will Microsoft Sell Off Its Entertainment Division?

aekafan Re:MS's gaming strategy has been weird for years (404 comments)

Never understood this line of thought. Sure, hardware will cost a little more on the PC side, but the cost of software will more than make up for that over time. When I can get a PC title for 25% the price of its console equivalent this argument makes no sense. In the next generation of consoles, software prices are getting a sharp increase, thus making an even better argument for PC gaming

What To Do After You Fire a Bad Sysadmin Or Developer

Odd. My experience has mostly been the opposite. Also, companies are made up of people, how can they be evil, if the people in them are not?

In the end, I have to so the fark what? If we reject in their entirety the ideas of a person who holds some views that we disagree with, we would quickly have no ideas left Yes he was a racist, but also a good writer. Everyone has bad parts.

Huge Geoengineering Project Violates UN Rules

aekafan Re:Environmentalists (319 comments)

Yeah, yelling and screaming will certainly get people to see your point of view. Here, try it for yourself:

Next time you want to reason with someone, you stupid, shit-for-brains numbnut fuckwit, don't scream at them.

And if you aren't interested in reasoning with them, don't bother.

This is a great example of why I love the internet: it's full of loud-mouthed idiots who refute their point while trying to prove it.

Activision Blizzard Secretly Watermarking World of Warcraft Users

aekafan So what? (272 comments)

This is what I think Blizz/Activision will say if you complain. What are you gonna do, go play another game? Even though they are losing subscribers, they have enough that they really don't care. I don't play WoW, nor do I even like it, but I have some relatives who are so addicted to it that Blizzard executives could break into their house and rape their children, and they would give it a pass. This is meaningless on that scale.

UKNova TV Torrent Tracker Shut Down After FACT Issues C&D

aekafan Re:not "available for purchase anywhere" (195 comments)

So you are saying that Rosa Parks and Gandhi were both wrong? I mean, they were anarchistic lawbreakers, right? That the Jews Germany and political dissidents in Russia should have shut up with their whinging and worked within the system? Sometimes some selective anarchy is a great tool for change, when there are no other avenues. There are times when a government will not change no matter what, because the people support it, even when it is wrong. Hell, Plato recognized this in The Republic. Sometimes, to do what is right you simply have to break the law.

You are quite right, the world is not a black and white place. Not all laws are right, and few leaders are good. Often, our leaders don't care if the laws are right, they simply want to use the laws for their own advantage. And changing leaders generally doesn't affect this

I will fight against people like you who believe in their government and their laws, right or wrong

Star Wars: The Old Republic Adding Free-To-Play Option In November

aekafan Re:Dear Bioware (135 comments)

After all the money EA sank into this game, and since Biowares top programming and writing talent have left for better things, Bioware is essentially dead. It pains me to say, but I don't ever expect a good game from them again. Hopefully the former designers will show up somewhere though
