Vista To XP Upgrade Triples In Price, Now $150

alanjstr Re:I don't get it (907 comments)

Microsoft Search 4 is available for XP and it works well.

As for Dell's business decision, people should look at it from their point of view. They have to keep deploying and supporting an older OS. I'm not advocating Vista, but it makes business sense.

Out with ODF, in with CDF

alanjstr alanjstr writes  |  more than 6 years ago

alanjstr (131045) writes "While many people are against OOXML, members of ODF have recently been defecting. Some, like GNOME have gone to OOXML But others are migrating towards the W3C's CDF. The reason? ODF is too specific to Open Office.

"We can't meet our market requirements with OpenDocument," said Gary Edwards who started the OpenDocument Foundation last year. "The truth is OpenDocument was never designed to meet market requirements."

"The thing you notice about CDF right away is that you are not working in the confines of how OpenOffice implements lists and tables. ODF directly reflects how OpenOffice does things," Edwards said.
