Windows 10 To Feature Native Support For MKV and FLAC

baka_toroi Re:.wav (294 comments)

Sure, that's why you would use FLAC if you want to keep perfect audio. Also, the shittiness of MP3 is largely dependant on the encoder. Get the latest version, rip to 320 kbps MP3 and it will most definitely not sound like shit.

Windows 10 To Feature Native Support For MKV and FLAC

baka_toroi Re:FLAC? (294 comments)

There's absolutely no reason at all you should use .wav. MP3 is fine due to a myriad of compatibility-related reasons.

FLAC is not new, it's a lossless format, meaning, it compresses audio but you don't lose quality in the process.

The Schizophrenic Programmer Who Built an OS To Talk To God

baka_toroi Re:OK then. (449 comments)

A single dimension (or 0th?) is the simplest one. It doesn't mean it's the most sensible or useful one. It's very hard to find the balance between simplicity and utility, and 640x480x16 seems to be the sweet spot according to God.

Solving the Mystery of Declining Female CS Enrollment

baka_toroi Re:Because women aren't stupid? (608 comments)

I have, but there's a lack of smart people and firing all the shitty programmers doesn't seem to be a solution, seeing as there's still a lot of demand for programmers, even those who inflict strokes on the good ones when they take a look at the mediocres' code.

What would you suggest? Your course of action is akin to those of revolutionary anarchists in regards to dealing with government. Setting governments on fire and making mediocre programmers redundant are both solutions that could work -theoretically at least- but are completely impractical. I'm not sure the solution can come from academia, by the way.

Solving the Mystery of Declining Female CS Enrollment

baka_toroi Re:Because women aren't stupid? (608 comments)

I know you're trolling, but nobody wants to work at McDonald's, even if they don't have passion. It's the job of passionate and capable programmers to create adequate templates and frameworks that reduce the damage done by shitty programmers.

Microsoft Announces Windows 10

baka_toroi Re:No 9? (644 comments)

Yup, it's the Chinese reading. I don't know much Chinese but it seems 4 is also a homonym with death (si4 if I'm not mistaken).
Also, the reading for death in Japanese (shi) came from Chinese, it's the on-yomi. So yeah, it's more of a China thing.

Microsoft Announces Windows 10

baka_toroi Re:No 9? (644 comments)

Windows 7 is "uindouzu sebun" (seven) in Japanese, and not "nana" or "shichi." Same goes for 8 (eito instead of "hachi"), So 9 would've been "uindouzu nain" and not "ku."

Just kidding, I know you can't seriously answer this. I wish you could, though.

UK Police Warn Sharing James Foley Killing Video Is a Crime

baka_toroi Re:Seems to be working really well... (391 comments)

This is coming from someone who doesn't follow all this stuff, so I'm not being completely sarcastic, but hasn't Obama called Seal Team 6 a million times already? What makes it different this time? What makes the US think they will win this war?

Propaganda is to get people talking about this, doesn't matter if it's good or bad talk. And I think they're succeeding. BTW, are they using Final Cut to edit these videos? For some reason I find that hilarious.

UK Police Warn Sharing James Foley Killing Video Is a Crime

baka_toroi Re:Seems to be working really well... (391 comments)

Wow. I mean, it's not the most graphic (as in gore) video I've seen but damn if this isn't awesome propaganda for "the terrorists."

I think the US still thinks it's fighting against "sand niggers" and doesn't realize the true scope of what they're fighting against. I'm also surprised at their English proficiency and quality of video-editing.

It crushes my heart saying this, because I used to love them, but AMD's CPUs are shit nowadays. I don't even like their low-end.

Ask Slashdot: Where can I obtain resources to program for Palm OS 5?

baka_toroi baka_toroi writes  |  about 4 months ago

baka_toroi (1194359) writes "I got a Tungsten E2 from a friend and I wanted to give it some life by programming for it a little bit. The main problem I'm bumping with is that HP thought it would be awesome to just shut down every single thing related to Palm OS development. After googling a lot I found out CodeWarrior was the de facto IDE for Palm OS development... but I was soon disappointed as I learned that Palm moved from the 68K architecture to ARM, and of course, CodeWarrior was just focused on Palm OS 4 development.

Now, I realize Palm OS 4 software can be run on Palm OS 5, but I'm looking to use some of the "newer" APIs. Also, I have the Wi-fi add-on card so I wanted to create something that uses it. I thought what I needed was PODS (Palm OS Development Suite) but not only I can't find it anywhere but also it seems it was deprecated during Palm OS's lifetime. It really doesn't help the fact that I'm a beginner, but I really want to give this platform some life.
Any general tip, book, working link or even anecdotes related to all this will be greatly appreciated."

The unfortunate tale of Rory Kimberly; a shameful situation

baka_toroi baka_toroi writes  |  more than 4 years ago

Dear diary: today I farted on a SoaC. It was a blissful experience, seeing those crumbles of rotten gas impact all the bits and bolts of the ARM-based processor. I heard once about a girl who tried to do it with an Intel Quad Core (Alas, the specific model has not been disclosed). Suffice to say she ended up the rest of her days in a madhouse. God forbid anyone doing such a thing with a SPARC. His or her soul shall be coursed for several eternities.
