The Battle of Hoth: Vader the Invader

bertoelcon Re:A Serious Fan Could Apologize This All Away (111 comments)

If the energy shields could only stop energy and not physical materials from entering, then the rebel shield makes sense. The Star Destroyers are too massive to get below the shield without crashing to the planet and yet all of their weapons are ion or energy based. So you have to transport in ground troops and walk them in.

The shields the Gungans used in the prequels seemed like that. It could stop weapon fire from outside, but the droids could just walk inside of it without any trouble.

bertoelcon Re:Eyebleed site (104 comments)

Wow that site is so terrible looking that it makes Geocities and myspace look decent. The only thing it's missing is cosmic cursors.

Yeah, Techcrunch is really ugly isn't it.

Ask Slashdot: What's a Good Tablet/App Combination For Note-Taking?

bertoelcon Entourage Edge (425 comments)

If you can get one the e-ink side is great for note taking and you can plug in a USB keyboard if the notes would be better typed. You would have to deal with the company having go under so all the support is other users.

The 2011 Hugo Awards

bertoelcon Re:Shocking, I say (162 comments)

/. is slipping, usually it's 90% complainers and 5% fanboys trying to do damage control with the remaining 5% complaining about the rampant fanboys. Come on complainers, you're slipping.

The story was only up 4 hours on a Sunday night in the USA(when you posted), wait till after people get to work on Monday to level the ratios out.

PS Vita Specs Announced

bertoelcon Re:Finally, something that doesn't record in 720p. (259 comments)

PSP Go had no UMD drive. People who previously owned UMDs were allowed to download free copies of their games from PSN. It's a reasonable assumption that Sony may follow the same principle with the new device.

Do you have a source for that? It sounds like absolute bullshit but, it is possible.

Not to crap on your analogy but sometimes those fires are put out with explosions. That might be analogous to how they end the riots...

Had the series been managed well, it may not have dried up like it did.

There is a version that's been managed better, it's called 'Rock Band".

Apple Ordered To Pay $8M For Playlist Patents

bertoelcon Re:Didn't Apple ever read the netiquette FAQ? (104 comments)

Solution: Burn them with fire.

But then you run the risk of getting charged with arson and/or some sort of murder charge. I'm not sure if it's worth it.

Indie Film Premieres On BitTorrent Before Cinema

bertoelcon Re:MPAA quaking in their boots? (93 comments)

As of now, the big money the MPAA provides is still a prerequisite for a blockbuster action flick; smashing three dozen cars ain't cheap. But with improved CGI even that cost will be brought to effectively zero.

On the one hand you have a point here, but on the other hand there is a large visual difference between a practical effects with a little touch up and straight CGI.

Google's Six-Front War

bertoelcon Google has an advantage (249 comments)

Google has a slight advantage in that none of their services other than advertising are really making money, and not many have to be as long as adverting can keep them afloat as well as it has.
