Pope Francis Declares Evolution and Big Bang Theory Are Right

birdspider Tip of the iceberg [missing link] (669 comments)

There is no missing link.

Its just a line of fosills from A..B...C......H..I...N...V...X..YZ, and whenever there is a fossil discovered to be - say - put in between I and N you have 2 new "gaps".
Which in turn get popularized as "the (new) missing link".

Yes the fossil record is not complete (that would require a unbroken chain from FossilA to FossilZ - an by its nature fossilised stuff is rare (enough) to not be complealty avaliable).

# I'm no expert - and the missing link stuff via media is getting to me - so here is my layman clarification. Also the Letters A-Z have only illustrative purposes here. #

Ask Slashdot: Best SOHO Printer Choices?

birdspider Brother 5250 (381 comments)

I bought a Brother 5250 with network and tumble (print on both sides of a page).
Works flawlessly with Linux/OSX/Win.

Though I know of an Kyocera BW Laser bought ~ 1990 which still works fine as long as you don't bust its RAM by printing images.

birdspider I wonder (144 comments)

why no one bothers to hire him. I can imagine that his (hands-on) experience, both form producer and consumer side regarding prosthetics is quite rare and china has to be in great demand of such skills, that is being such a large and industious country.

Have I Lost My Gaming Mojo?

birdspider subjective suggestion (418 comments)

You might try out Sword of the Stars or Dragon Age (this was mentioned before).
The former one is particularly 'gripping' in MP, the later has awesome between-character dialoges.

Town Gets Patent On Being the Center of Europe

birdspider I tried, but... (169 comments)

Though I'm from Austria, I am in now way whatsoever involved with patents, I tried to look "AM 7738/2003" up @ patent search engine, without luck. I just noticed that when I filter for Austrian patents the prefix changes to AT XXXXXXX, so I'm not sure what to make of the AM
