Box Office 2014: Moviegoing Hits Two-Decade Low

blahbooboo Re:Economics (400 comments)

I think the rise of cheap home theater is why people aren't bothering as much with going to the theater (I stopped going to theaters years ago, my home theater is far more pleasant)

Why Lizard Squad Took Down PSN and Xbox Live On Christmas Day

blahbooboo Glad to hear it's not their just pathetic jerks (336 comments)

So they ruin the day both for thousands of kids with new consoles and the tech support/security teams for the companies who now have to come in to work on Christmas. I have another theory why they do this on Christmas -- this group of hackers (at a psychological level) are just sad and lonely people who are angry with the world and want to ruin the joy/fun for others.

blahbooboo Re:my ipad 2 still works (281 comments)

You must not be very observant or extremely patient if you think iPad 2 is the same "use speed" as it was 2-3 iOS versions ago. It's tremendously slower under iOS 7...

New French Law Prohibits After-Hours Work Emails

blahbooboo Re:get rid of salary pay / make it have a high lev (477 comments)

In the 1980's, IBM (among others) invested lots of money to have legislation passed that makes programmers, engineers, and sysadmins into "salaried professionals" so that they wouldn't have to pay overtime.

What legislation was this specifically that forced these folks to be "salaried" because I never heard of such a thing?

Google Fiber Launches In Provo — and Here's What It Feels Like

blahbooboo Re: Until you experience the speed ... (338 comments)

Uh the max speed you get on a gige line is about 80MB/s. The theoretical Max is 100MB/s. I don't think you got 400MB/s on your slightly better consumer router. That's not possible on gige

A Short History of Computers In the Movies

blahbooboo What!? No mention of War Games! (165 comments)

For kids of the 1980s this movie was first exposure towards the medium. Additionally it heralded the dawn of the hacker and government misunderstanding of the hacker capabilities -- specifically some of the problems Kevin Mitnick faced. Really surprised it wasn't mentioned.

Security Breach Forces Bitcoin Bank Inputs.io To Halt Operations

blahbooboo Bitcoin is it just a scheme? (285 comments)

Having watched this bitcoin project/program/scheme (whatever) unfold the last couple years it seems like a money making fraud scheme. I still don't fully understand how it works, it's extremely confusing to actually try to use the "currency", why someone can just say a bitcoin is worth X dollars, and you can create money by "mining" for it with a graphics card. It feels like something created by criminal entities which will eventually collapse or found to be fraudulent....

iPhone 3G lines start at the Apple Cube... one wee

blahbooboo blahbooboo writes  |  more than 6 years ago

blahbooboo (839709) writes "Some really over-eager folks have decided to get a jump on the iPhone 3G line. Engadget took pictures of about ten people who have started a line outside of Apple's flagship store on 5th Avenue in New York. The family at the head of the queue are attempting to break some kind of record which involves their baby. Think it's Steve hiring these people to sit there?"
