For Automated Testing, Better Alternatives To DOS Batch Files?

bmecoli Python (426 comments)

Python is my scripting language of choice because it's easy to use and it has it's own "os" module that you can use to launch commands and the like, not to mention the "glob" module, which can grab all file names in a given directory into an array. I highly recommend it. (2.6)

Steve Jobs Says PC Folks' World Is Slipping Away

bmecoli Re:Sounds to me... (1067 comments)

what have you done that's so great? Do you create anything, or just criticize others work and belittle their motivations?

What a complete asshole who thinks he's so much better than everyone else.

Heh, that quote reminds me of Dr. Breen from Half-Life 2:

Tell me, Dr. Freeman, if you can. You have destroyed so much. What is it, exactly, that you have created? Can you name even one thing? I thought not.

How To Behave At a Software Company?

bmecoli Re:dont be a douche (842 comments)

As someone who has it (and who's been professionally diagnosed), I can say that at times, it does feel like some sort of black art. While you guys develop decent social skills naturally, we have to really work at it, mainly through a lot of trial and error. Also note that careers that require a very high level of logical thinking tend to have more people with Aspergers than other careers (since, well, that's how our brains are wired, really)

Socialization isn't some BlackArt.

What if you have Aspergers?

Civilization V To Use Steamworks

bmecoli Re:Civ was my offline game (295 comments)

I've use Steam, and not once have I ever had an issue with it. their download/DRM model works rather well and isn't nearly as bad as say, Ubisoft's. I mean, their whole business model is what has made the platform so successful in the first place, so I wouldn't worry about CIV V being on Steam.

Larry Sanger Tells FBI Wikipedia Distributes "Child Pornography"

bmecoli Re:Some food for thought (572 comments)

Let's try something harder. Your 16 yo daughter take her own picture doing a sensual pose, perhaps showing her breasts, using her own cellphone. She passes this picture to a friend of hers using SMS/text messages, which passes to another friend, which then passes it to the same suspected pedophile of the above case.

A pedophile wouldn't be interested in a 16 year old girl...

AT&T blocks img.4chan.org from customers

bmecoli bmecoli writes  |  more than 5 years ago

bmecoli writes "AT&T seems to be blocking img.4chan.net which hosts the infamous /b/ (random) board, as well as /r9k/. Those who have contacted AT&T representatives were told that the site is in fact blocked, so this isn't a technical problem, and all the other 4chan subdomains work fine."
