Inside the Fake PC Recycling Market

bostei2008 Re:No surprise... (320 comments)

If that was serious and not just sarcasm:

Guys like you make me sick. Whenever I walk through some landscape and see some asshole having dumped his shit somewhere, I want to smash his face to pulp.

If everyone thinks like you, its no wonder earth is going to hell.

New MacBook Pros Launched

bostei2008 Re:It doesn't matter (411 comments)

... Battery life and portability are the big drawbacks to the PC side of the aisle.

Really? The Dell E6500 compares very nicely to the MBP. Similar price, similar customer group, the same well made design (the latter of course is a matter of subjective taste).

Dell claims 19 hours battery life with the extended cell. That would be 10 hours more than the 9 hours the new 15" MBP have.

http://www.dell.com/us/en/enterprise/notebooks/laptop_latitude_e6500/pd.aspx?refid=laptop_latitude_e6500&cs=555&s=biz

Now, Dell may be exaggerating. But so may Apple.

The iPad vs. Microsoft's "Jupiter" Devices

bostei2008 Re:m$ slashdvertisers are all online today (293 comments)

I agree.

I have a Mac and I love it. But this hype I find ridiculous. The iPad is cool, sure. But it is a tech gadget, for gods sake, not a fucking religion.

Now mod me down for this.

Space Shuttle Spy Gets 15 Years

bostei2008 Was there proof? (402 comments)

This is a real question:

Was there any proof for the allegations?

All I could take from the article was that he took lots of material home. I do not read anything about a proof for giving the information to China, or receiving money for it for that matter.

Dev Booted From App Store For Inflated Reviews

bostei2008 Re:How in the heck did he get 1000 apps in the sto (178 comments)

The quantity of apps on the app store suggest that you're mistaken. A few developers have had some high profile troubles (made high profile because they complain loudly...) but how many thousands of apps have been approved?

How do you know its a "few developers"? Have you any hard numbers to prove you claim that almost everyone is happy? Just claiming something does not make it true.

I do not have hard numbers, but a number of my friends actually have applications in the App Store, and I have heard quite often that the approval process is pretty terrible. But I would never claim this as the objective truth, it could be sampling bias.

Palm Sued Over Palm Pre GPL Violation

bostei2008 Re:Well (374 comments)

Careful who you attack. I've been an engineer for 20 years and have programmed more hardware and languages than you probably can imagine, so don't piss on my leg.

But *I* am sick and tired of people who don't show even the most basic politeness in forums like this and behave like complete assholes while they (probably) are just some total loosers in real life.

All the self proclaimed gurus who hide their inability to communicate with normal people in a polite manner behind a facade of elitism. Which isn't often so elitist at all if you take a minute to look behind it.

IBM's Newest Mainframe Is All Linux

bostei2008 Re:Mainframe or Server? (251 comments)

IBM Marketing wanted to be new and hip.

For the AS/400, they wanted to get away from the images "5250 terminal", "Greenscreen", "oldish", "punchcards"...

In the end, they totally fu**ed up the naming.

"System i" is a bitch to google.

Palm Sued Over Palm Pre GPL Violation

bostei2008 Re:Well (374 comments)

... you must be new here? Or you're technologically impaired and know not a thing about Palm.

This is not the place for you - go back to Digg/Wikipedia where you belong. This is a place for people with EXPERIENCE AND FIRST-HAND KNOWLEDGE to discuss things, not provide bullshit citations from some wiki that any moron can edit, for morons with the weakest google-fu on the fucking planet or just plain lazy fools without a clue.

IOW - Sit down little one, adults are talking. Speak only when spoken to.

...stunned silence.... ... wow. What the hell ?

You are the official elitist-asshole-of-the-day.

Russia Recalls Modern Warfare 2

bostei2008 Re:As a Russian (548 comments)

Jesus, that is such a cynical calculation. The righteousness of it makes me gag.

The U.S. was effectively hidden behind an ocean. No enemy soldier ever entered U.S. soil. No enemy bomb ever fell on any of your cities.

Had the Axis ever invaded the U.S. - or Great Britain, for that matter - the death toll would have been far higher.

Also, the Americans and Brits didn't give shit about *enemy* civilians, carpet bombing german cities to stone age.

You might have a moral high point in respect to the Germans, but not to Soviet Russia.

BTW, I'm a German. From what I learned and heard from our grandfathers, the Russian war effort was what toppled the Nazis, not the western front. This might be wrong, but at least I do not have any reason to be biased to either side.

Scientists Decry "Horrifying" UK Border Test Plan

bostei2008 Re:Emigration is a Privilege, not a Right (515 comments)

The wealth of the first world is based to quite some extend on exploiting the third.

Of course not exclusively. We also have democracy, liberal rights, free trade, private property... But to some extend we owe them for the cheap resources, for the cheap labor and for the fact that they buy all our nice weapon systems.

Pirate Party Unites In Australia

bostei2008 Re:Piratenpartei got 2.0% in german elections (173 comments)

You also can read this another way.

The proclaimed issues of the PP were important enough for two percent of the population to actually vote for a small party, well knowing that PP probably does not make it into the government and their votes would be lost, somewhat.

But the actual percentage of population being p**d off at the german government for these reasons is probably far higher, otherwise FDP and green party both would not have gained so much votes.
