Bittorrent To Cause Internet Meltdown

brdsutte Re:This is a good thing (872 comments)

The problem is not bandwidth. It's latency. You pay only for bandwidth, but for many applications you also care about low latency. And no single provider can ensure that you get some latency to every other corner of the world. Unless of course, everyone behaves as gentlemen. Then there are still no guarantees, but it seems to work pretty well in practice... let's keep it that way.

Facebook lying about its friend finder

brdsutte brdsutte writes  |  more than 2 years ago

brdsutte (576841) writes "So we've come to accept that Facebook knows a lot about us and our friends, and uses that to target ads. But how about them lying about what we do or like and mispresenting our behavior? Every now and then these friend finder ads show up, in which it is claimed that this and that friend already used friend finder. I've checked my mentioned friends, and none of them actually used it. If Facebook is lying about this, why wouldn't it be lying about other user behavior? Any other bad experiences like this? Or any suggestion on how to make them stop?"

unlocker IPhone on sale in Belgium

brdsutte brdsutte writes  |  more than 6 years ago

brdsutte (576841) writes "Well, the 3G iPhone is finally going on sale in Belgium, according to De Standaard online. It's in Dutch, but it says it will be lock-free, for the price of "only" 525 euro for the 8GB version, and 615 euro for the 16GB version. Different contracts can be bought with it, ranging from 30 to 60 euro, depending on included minutes, ... In neighbouring countries, the phone is about 400 euro cheaper, but it is locked to contracts of about the same cost. Apparently, the lock-free version is due to Belgian law."
