How Android Phone Makers Are Missing the Marketing Boat

briareus Re:You listed nothing an iPhone cannot do... (373 comments)

We're talking about wired connections here, in particular, the advantages of a standard connector over a proprietary "dock" connector.

There are pros and cons on both sides. You see your points as advantages, but, as indicated above in the "why nerds can't market to the masses", none of that matters to most consumers out there.

How Android Phone Makers Are Missing the Marketing Boat

briareus Re:Standard Connector? (373 comments)

If I, as a handset manufacturer, do something like that, what differentiates me from any other Android handset manufacturer?

Seriously? The location of the USB port on Android devices is the only thing that differentiates them?

WikiLeaks To Sue Visa/MasterCard

briareus Re:As well they should (347 comments)

No, they cannot. They are not "just private companies". They are part of the financial backbone and cannot simply pick and choose whose payments get processed and whose do not on this type of basis. View the world as black and white only and you miss the important details.

Golden Gate Bridge To Eliminate Tollbooths

briareus Re:Clean air anyone? Traffic jams? (349 comments)

Why? What have they done. Or is it because they are the minions of the people who put the rules in place? In that case, is it OK to hate the military people for doing the same?

Either you've never experienced them or your experiences have not been the norm.

'No Refusal' DUI Checkpoints Coming To Florida?

briareus Re:Nope... (1219 comments)

RTFA or even the parent you're responding to. The topic is DUI checkpoints. What part of "DUI checkpoint" doesn't involve a car?

Underwear Invention Protects Privacy At Airport

briareus Re:Risks vs. Benefits unknown? (325 comments)

We have no problems with that because we don't want to risk our health. Why can't we do the same for our security?

Because the TSA isn't about security. It's about security theater. There's a significant difference.

Seinfeld's Good Samaritan Law Now Reality?

briareus Re:No (735 comments)

It's actually quite like what a compiler might have to do, think of 5 as variables going out of scope for example.

No, it's not like that at all. If the compiler performs calculations then the person following the steps would have to execute them for your analogy to be relevant. Try again.

Variables going out of scope would be more like losing your hands and voice...

NASA Mars Rover Opportunity Grinds "Cool" Rock

briareus Re:Unearthing? (70 comments)

Kids these days don't even wonder why they use words like "dial" with regard to their phones (since there's no rotatable disc or round face to indicate time or any other unit of measure). The odd person might give it a moment's thought at most.
