Qcloud Puts Quantum Chip In the Cloud For Coders To Experiment

brickmack Id hardly call it a cloud service (73 comments)

More like the way supercomputers are run. Youve got to submit a job to be done, and then the jobs are arranged by priority and it may take a while before your code runs on it.

Windows 8.1 RTM Trickling Out, With Start Menu and Boot-to-Desktop

brickmack Re:Too little too late (496 comments)

You can change it if you have admin rights. But Windows is mostly used by businesses still, which dont let their users control anything. Also, Windows isnt a cheap operating system. If Im gonna pay for something, it better be useable. When I use Linux, I expect it to be basically unuseable out of the box and need a lot of changes to get it working, but thats ok because I didnt pay for it

Windows 7 was mediocre? Sure, its not as good as Linux, but its by far the best OS Microsoft has ever made

brickmack Re:Sonic.net FTW! (290 comments)

How exactly would one go about starting an ISP? And is it even a possibility when most places only legally allow 2 ISPs?

Having 2 young girls also makes it your job as a parent to do this, not the government. This "save the children" shit is getting really irritating

You use a phone as your main device? I could see a tablet, but phone screens are too damn small.

Compared to my 1st computer's memory ...

brickmack Re: Missing alternative (587 comments)

The point is more that if we have more processing power in a tiny device in our pockets than NASA (and most of the world combined) had in the 60s, everything else also should have advanced at a similar rate. So why am I not living on Pluto?

Critical Security Updates Coming To Windows XP, 8, RT & Server

brickmack Re:Why? (289 comments)

There's a nice thing about Linux. You don't like a particular program your distro of choice came with? Replace it. There's plenty of alternatives for just about any part of the system, and it's generally not very hard to swap them out. As for drivers, I've never had any major problems on Linux with drivers for my stuff (though Windows 7 did refuse to use the driver for my graphics card for a while). Not sure what to tell you there.
