Google Removes Apple from Search Results

briggsb briggsb writes  |  more than 5 years ago

GoogleInsider (217215) writes "'In response to Apple pulling the Google Voice application from the iPhone App Store, Google has removed all search results leading to Apple.com from its index. Google is also redirecting searches for "iPhone" and "app store" to the IMDb.com page for Payback.' That article is a work of satire, but Google's head of search Marissa Meyer sent it out to her 4000 followers on Twitter, then thought better of it and deleted it. Unfortunately for her, nothing on the Internet is ever deleted, and TechCrunch spotted it and reported on it. Could this turn into a problem for Google? In related news Apple releases a new iPhone."

Hackers Successfully Install Linux on a Potato

briggsb briggsb writes  |  more than 5 years ago

briggsb (217215) writes "From the hilarious article: "Amsterdam, Netherlands — Hackers from the LinuxOnAnything.nl Web site successfully installed Linux on a potato. It's the first time the operating system has been successfully installed on a root vegetable." Wouldn't it have been easier to install it on a potato chip?"

The 42nd Anniversary of Star Trek:TOS

briggsb briggsb writes  |  about 6 years ago

Captain Kirk (217215) writes "TodToday is the 42nd anniversary (the geekiest of all anniversaries) of the debut of Star Trek:TOS on television. To commemorate the occassion, Brian Briggs from BBspot is watching all ten Star Trek movies in a row (all 19 hours of them) and liveblogging the experience on BBspot via Twitter. Might I suggest mixing up a batch of Klingon Blood Wine and watching along with him? KHHHAAAAAN!"

More Protesters at the LHC

briggsb briggsb writes  |  more than 6 years ago

briggsb (217215) writes "From the article: As the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) nears completion, many people have worried about the implications of colliding subatomic particles at high velocities. Some have suggested that the device could destroy the Earth by creating black holes or dangerous subatomic particles, but a new group calling themselves People for the Ethical Treatment of Hadrons (PETH) are worried about the health of the subatomic particles." What's funnier are the tinfoil hat brigade that believe this stuff."

Fake Firefox Extension Becomes Reality

briggsb briggsb writes  |  more than 6 years ago

briggsb writes "I posted a fake news story yesterday about the Mozilla Foundation creating a "Rickroll Protection Extension" for Firefox. Behold the power of the Internet. Less than 20 hours later, one of my readers created just such an extension which I've now linked from the story. I guess it's not fake news any more."

briggsb briggsb writes  |  more than 7 years ago

briggsb writes "Here's an article I wrote for BBspot about Apple Stores beginning to charge entrance fees to see the iPhone and next-generation iPods. The funny thing is, I can see Apple taking this idea and running with it. Don't blame me, please."

briggsb (217215) writes "Tech satire site BBspot has created a hilarious flowchart that should help anybody still deciding whether to upgrade to Vista. Anybody from the novice user to the expert can use this easy to follow chart and take thinking out of the decision process. In other Vista news here is possibly the worst Vista headline ever and some we didn't see."

briggsb (217215) writes "Maybe this is one of the new products Apple will be announcing on 9/12. From the story: "Steve Jobs announced the release of Apple's iProf line of computers which will replace human professors in college classrooms. These computers use advanced artificial intelligence algorithms and patented Internet searching techniques to create and deliver lectures for various subjects." Sure it's a joke, but it probably won't be long before every trace of human interaction is removed from education."
