DEFCON's Latest Challenge: Hacking Altruism

c0d3r Brick Machine (47 comments)

I've always enjoyed having a computer that's off and not even connected to the network, and watching people trying to hack my computer, while I'm fake typing and clicking. They seem to wonder what I'm doing and walk around to try to get a glimpse of my screen....

Perl Is Undead

c0d3r Modern Weak Languages (283 comments)

It probably has lost popularity because all of these newbies can't handle a more powerful language, and have to go back to basic like languages. I could do lots with little code in Perl. Python looks like a BASIC with some c and perl features.

Ask Slashdot: Where's the Most Unusual Place You've Written a Program From?

c0d3r Microsoft Redwest - No office space (310 comments)

At Microsoft Redwest, vendors don't have office space. I saw many people working on the floor in halls. Others in the lunch room. You were expected to work from home. Some like me were good enough that they would make office space. Sometimes vendors would gather on the floor in their lead's office.

How Do I Get Back a Passion For Programming?

c0d3r Sledge Hammer! (516 comments)

I took a sledge hammer to a server and all my friends did too, and I avoided computers for a year, and learned automechanics. After that I re-found my passion for coding, and broadened my view of the world. I'm glad I did it.

Computer Graphics Sound Simulation

c0d3r c0d3r writes  |  more than 5 years ago

c0d3r writes "I saw a cool link at http://www.news.cornell.edu/stories/June09/SynthSounds.ws.html where researchers are presenting a paper about algorithms that "synthesize complex sounds based on the physics of the simulated objects." From TFA: "We have no way to efficiently compute the sounds of water splashing, paper crumpling, hands clapping, wind in trees or a wine glass dropped onto the floor." I've never thought about the concepts behind creating sound based on the physics of a simulated object."

Russia is attacking Georgia

c0d3r c0d3r writes  |  about 6 years ago

c0d3r writes "CNN is reporting that Russia is now attacking Georgia. Per TFA: "Georgia's president said Friday that his country is under attack by Russian tanks and warplanes, and he accused Russia of targeting civilians as tensions over the breakaway Georgian region of South Ossetia appeared to boil over into full-blown conflict." Reminds me of the movie Red Dawn, which was filmed in my home town of Las Vegas, NM in the Southwest."

c0d3r c0d3r writes  |  more than 7 years ago

c0d3r writes "I'm curious to know what other peoples thoughts are on the differences between working for big companies, small shops or being self employed as a consultant as a software engineer. Personally, I am sick of working with major companies due to the corporate politics BS. I think I enjoyed working with pre-ipo's the best, and they offered the best hope of making a bunch of money on the options. Currently I'm pretty happy at a small shop as one of 2 developers where we do very little and go home early every day."
