If Tesla Can Run Its Gigafactory On 100% Renewables, Why Can't Others?

caldodge Re:It's not horseshit. It's happening. (444 comments)

Historically global temperatures have preceded CO2 concentrations - they went up BEFORE CO2 concentrations did, and went down in the same order.

"The resulting warfare and hardship will be devastating."

Like Paul Ehrlich predicted in the 60s. And it didn't happen.

Or like how the UN predicted in 2005 that there would be 50,000,000 climate refugees by 2010 - people forced to move because of "climate change", like living on islands being inundated by rising sea levels. It didn't happen.

40 years ago it was claimed that we were heading for a new ice age,and the only way to stop it was massive increases in government power, along with a huge reduction in fossil fuel usage. Now it's claimed we're headed for a new heat age, and the solution is amazing similar to the previous solution.

"Temperatures are going up worldwide"

Temperatures have been stable for 10 years. That's NOT what the warmist models predicted.

Jeffrey Zients Appointed To Fix Healthcare.gov

caldodge Re:Raft of failures (250 comments)

Paul Krugman has repeatedly said that the destruction of wealth (Japanese tsunami, theoretical alien invasion) is a good thing, in utter ignorance of the broken window fallacy. Count me unimpressed by his Nobel.

Using the Open Records Law To Intimidate Critics

caldodge Re:motivations (369 comments)

UW's policy on the use of college resources for political activity is quite clear, and can be viewed at http://www.wisconsin.edu/govrel/camprule.htm

That page includes the following sentence: "You may not use state resources to engage in political campaign activities at any time"
A few paragraphs later the page states that "state resources" includes university email accounts.

So, at the very least, the "professor" violated university policy. If your assertion is correct (that he's not an "official"), then he can make that argument in court.

I encourage /.ers to read your journal, so they can get some idea of where you're coming from (the far left), and can judge your assertions accordingly.

Wikipedia Works To Close Gender Gap

caldodge Proof of discrimination (376 comments)

But not by Wikipedia, since anyone can contribute.

No, the problem is that WOMEN discriminate against Wikipedia, deciding that they have more important things to do with their time.

So women must be dragged, kicking and screaming, into becoming Wikipedia contributors. This sounds like the perfect opportunity for the FCC to force women to spend more of their time in this way. I suggest they call it "Sex Neutrality".

Congresswoman and Staff Gunned Down

Did you also look at the "Giffords is dead to me post" before it was wiped from that notorious right-wing site, the DailyKos?

caldodge Re:American Terrorist Group? (2166 comments)

I look forward to your public apology when you find out that the assassin was a lefty atheist, rather than a Republican or Christian.

But thanks for identifying yourself as a kneejerk lefty jackass.

Actually, he was identified as a lefty atheist nutjob loner.

DailyKos took down their recent "Giffords is dead to me" post. Mebbe you should be spreading the blame a bit farther.

The attacker turns out to be a lefty atheist pot-head. I look forward to your post blaming DailyKos (for the recent "Giffords is dead to me" post) and Frances Fox Piven for today's shootings.

caldodge Re:Palin (2166 comments)

When you call for a violence against the established government (like France Fox Piven did recently), and you know that a fair number of the people reading her comments are loons, and you find out the shooter was a lefty atheist pot-head, it's a reasonable speculation that lefty "eliminationist rhetoric" inspired the shootings.

Seems somebody was listening to Frances Fox Piven or reading the "Giffords is dead to me" post on DailyKos and acted on it. Scary.

But thanks for identifying yourself as a member of the kneejerk lefty jackass brigade.

Climate Change and the Integrity of Science

caldodge Re:At least it's an opportunity for psych science (1046 comments)

Hundreds of voices protest that the word "trick" is widely used for legitimate data manipulations.

So "hiding the decline" (i.e., tree ring data which does NOT support AGW) is "legitimate data manipulation"?

ESR looked at the CRU code, and described it as "blatant data cooking". Is that "legitimate data manipulation", too?

Justice Dept. Asked For Broad Swath of IndyMedia's Visitor Records

caldodge Re:That's change I can believe in (244 comments)

The irony is, if the left wing actually supported the right on some of their basic rights issues, they would get another break on government power.

(note the Left's current guffaws over the non-prosecution of the white guys who brutally beat a black man in St. Louis 3 months ago)

Justice Dept. Asked For Broad Swath of IndyMedia's Visitor Records

caldodge Re:That's change I can believe in (244 comments)

Yes, they're separate. That's why it's sheer coincidence that criminal charges against Obama supporters (Bill Richardson, the Philadelphia voter-intimidating thugs) were dropped in spite of objections by career DOJ lawyers.

Teenagers just keep getting younger and younger these days.

It's an Australia thing, like toilets flushing in the opposite direction.

Investing In Lawsuits Beats the Street

caldodge no surprise here (203 comments)

When robbery is permitted (or, at least, can be carried out with little risk) it will flourish, since it's easier to steal something than to create it. This is why Somali pirates are so successful at present.

The enactment of "loser pays" laws would reduce this activity by increasing the cost of this sort of theft.

Circuit City Returns Under Systemax

caldodge Re:Brothers in Suckitude (134 comments)

Perhaps they're praising Newegg because they're happy with it? I don't work for Newegg, but I buy my parts almost exclusively from them.

Meanwhile, I go to TigerDirect only if they have a component at an unbeatable price (which hasn't happened in 2-3 years). I won't buy complex products from them, after buying 2 Shuttle computers which were DOA (the "Direct" in TigerDirect means "Direct from the factory, so contact THEM about returns, not us" - and the factory never responded to phone calls or emails), and a Vivitar photo/video camera which died after a couple of months.
