Kim Dotcom Reveals Mega Will Offer 50GB of Free Storage

carlvlad Re:Go check out (203 comments)

I thought you meant they would pay me just for being a peer, but from the site:

== At least 20 TB of disk space, quality RAID controller, at least 4 GB of RAM, at least 1 Gbps uplink (2 Gbps preferred), Linux ==

But you are correct sir, it is an interesting concept and I would gladly be a paying customer for this service.

RIM Attracts 15,000 Apps For BlackBerry 10 In 2 Days

carlvlad Re:RIM basically bought the apps (193 comments)

I know this may not be a sure thing, but looking at the bright side, I don't think RIM would just easily pay $100 for any fart apps and generic clones. I really hope the app environment is polished enough for RIM to disrupt the market hold of iOS and Android. And I say the same to Windows Phone 8, Symbian, MeeGo, and upcoming trends of browser based OS too. There are no such thing as too many competition for consumers.

The Best and Worst From CES 2013

carlvlad Re:20" 4K display is dumb now? (152 comments)

I do believe that at this early point of time, 4K (or other higher than "HD" resolution) displays would be targeted at content creators, instead of content consumers. I do freelance videography, I would love to have high density display in small size. I keep hearing the same consensus from my peers within the same field that the display market had been stagnant at atrocious "FullHD 16:9". (Yes there are a lot of professional grade displays but they are financially out of reach from us mere freelancers :) )

The Best and Worst From CES 2013

carlvlad 20" 4K display is dumb now? (152 comments)

I dont get it, Why would the 20" 4K display be considered dumb? As a tablet it may not be seen as ideal to MOST of the people out there, but I'm more impressed that they managed to cram those pixels into 20" display. I'm not sure if they're the first to manufacture such hardware, but I've never seen anyone made that level of display at that small size. (not to forget as a tablet those includes the processor and the rest of the electronics.)

Facebook's New Terms of Service

carlvlad Re:Naive thinking... (426 comments)

I recall some time back on /. , when another social networking site (which I can't recall the name) did something like this. A fellow slashdoter comes up with an interesting approach by slowly replacing the contents with false data instead of deleting the account. I think that would work well providing the site does not maintain old archives.

How will they get agreement from current users? Does the TOS pops out the next time they login during the implementation?

EA Unveils Two New Battlefield Games

carlvlad Re:Details for Bad Company 2... (54 comments)

I for one don't really care for Bad Company series, but from the article it's written that "BF1943 will be focused on multiplayer". I always thought that Battlefield were always a multiplayer focused game, how more multiplayer can it get? I hope not by having/forcing annoying network clients (like GameSpy and such).

UK ISPs Near Agreement On Illegal File Sharing

Hardware based deep packet inspection. Here in Malaysia the current monopoly, government linked company (TMnet) not only over sells broadband subscriptions, but throttles all P2P protocols by using Cisco hardware. If I recall correctly there was an article on /. about 80Gbps deep packet inspection hardware, around the Olympics me think.
