ciryon Doesn't work in Safari for iPhone (369 comments)

I just tried browsing the full site on iPhone and switched to HTML5 mode. Doesn't seem to work, just displays a crossed over play-icon.

Go For a Masters, Or Not?

ciryon Get it (834 comments)

" Is a masters in computer engineering better than two years of experience at a company?"

No, but you should get a masters degree anyway since it'll make it much easier to get your first job and it's actually "proof" of knowledge much more so than work experience. That said, you'll probably learn a whole lot more during your first two years working than the entire time studying.

Reverse Engineering a Missile Launcher Toy's Interface

ciryon For continuos integration servers! (118 comments)

I am seriously considering to hook up one of these USB Missile Launchers to our continuos integration server at work. When someone checks in code that doesn't compile or breaks tests the launcher targets the offending developer (using pre-determined login aiming mapping) and fires a couple of rounds at him. That'll certainly increase code quality!

Apple's Terms No Longer Allow ITMS Purchases Outside of US

ciryon Not blocked yet (319 comments)

I just tried and American iTunes Store is still not blocked in Europe at least. I somehow fail to see that I'm doing something criminal when I buy music and shows from American iTunes using "gift cards", instead of pirating the goods from a torrent site, which would have been the only viable alternative.

Apple Climbs Into Third Place In U.S. PC Market

ciryon Re:Normal People? (1019 comments)

"Almost everybody out there, including the true geeks, runs Windows at work because they have to."

I think this is about to change, if it hasn't already. At my two recent jobs (software engineering/programming) it was fine to use Linux. Perhaps not encouraged, but perfectly fine if you could manage it. At my new job I'll get a MacBook Pro (with OS X obviously) when I start there.

Unix professional in a Windows World

ciryon ciryon writes  |  more than 10 years ago

I feel kinda isolated here. Everytwhere around me people are using Windows, and to speak the truth so am I, eventhough I'm protected by a layer of Cygwin. Everyone seems to understand that Unix is something really really great and powerful and they seem impressed and awed by my skill at it. We might be migrating one important server sooner or later. We're already only using open source servers like apache and mysql. It's me and one other guy that are unix fans. Or, actually, we're both Apple fans. Sigh. Two more days here..

Longing for Roskilde

ciryon ciryon writes  |  more than 11 years ago I'm starting to get the longing for Roskilde Festival again. Strange. One week of permanent heavy drinking, sleeping uncomfortably in tents and lostening to deafening music can be really addictive. Seems to be a good year with bands such as Metallica, Iron Maiden and Coldplay.

One thursday night

ciryon ciryon writes  |  more than 11 years ago

Captains log, stardate blah blah. I'm sitting here with a beer, some disgusting cheese (Philadelphia) and Chimera. Slashdot and Deathstars in my ears. "I'm gonna touch you inside". Damn, the iTunes randomizer isn't that good.
