Harold Ramis Dies At 69

cptnapalm Re:Egon's sexuality (136 comments)

If there's a steady paycheck in it, I'll believe anything you say.

Ray, when someone asks if you are a god, you say YES!

I fucking loved Winston when I was a kid.

cptnapalm Judge Dredd says "hi" (888 comments)

Mega City One, too, had a "post-scarcity" welfare system where few worked. It worked out rather differently.

World's First Magma-Based Geothermal Energy System

cptnapalm No need to read tech news, just read Judge Dredd (161 comments)

Between magma powered energy, government spy drones, the obesity problem with the corresponding fat acceptance demands and the militarization of the police, everything I learned about the future, I learned from reading Judge Dredd comics.

How 3 Young Coders Built a Better Portal To HealthCare.gov

cptnapalm Re:Government Involvement (499 comments)

Your reading comprehension skills need improvement. The portion of the Constitution which you butchered with ellipses states that Congress shall have powers in order to do a list of rather specific things.

In addition, if you actually had a clue (which you do not), you would know that the justification accepted by the Supreme Court was the "lay and collect taxes" portion of the Constitution since the law taxes people who do not have health insurance of a sort Congress finds acceptable.

For the same reason that they refer to intermediate cartridges as "high power": journalists are morons.

Yet Another Snowden Story. Somebody call me when Slashdot returns. I'm exceedingly tired of the Snowden Network.

OpenBSD 5.4 Released

cptnapalm Re:OpenBSD Rocks. (102 comments)

I have this truly bizarre UltraSparc laptop. The only two operating systems which will support it are Solaris, obviously, and OpenBSD. Solaris was extremely sluggish whereas OpenBSD with Awesome is quite spry.

How Safe Is Cycling?

cptnapalm Re:As a Montrealer with a Bixi Subscription (947 comments)

"When I'm stuck behind a bixi bike that I can't pass on the Maisoneuve bike lane, it's like driving behind a truck you can't pass."

How does this compare to driving behind slow ass cyclists that you can't pass?

Obama Seeks New System For Rating Colleges

cptnapalm Re:Then comes the arms race... (302 comments)

I read something a ways back which pointed out that this used to be the case. Then the Supreme Court decided IQ tests were the work of the devil. Since companies don't want to waste time on morons, they began requiring a BS/BA as a stand in for an IQ test.

Should the Next 'Doctor Who' Be a Woman?

cptnapalm Re:Ms. Dr. Who (772 comments)

Wonder Woman doesn't belong on that list because she isn't didn't ride on the coat tails of a male character to become well known.

Having breasts does not make you interesting. Political correctness is the ONLY reason why anyone is prattling about this inane idea.

Not sure if quoting an Anonymous Coward or was the Anonymous Coward.

This was a joke. If this was not a joke, the Emergency Broadcast System would have directed you to the nearest fireproof garments for the impending flamewar. This was only a joke.

The H Shuts Down

cptnapalm Re:Never heard of them. (94 comments)

I was about to say exactly the same thing. Perhaps it is an effect of not advertising their own existence. Perhaps it is because there's too much competition already for a niche market.

Environmentalist took Discovery Channel hostage

cptnapalm cptnapalm writes  |  more than 3 years ago

cptnapalm (120276) writes "The Washington Post is reporting that an environmentalist named James J. Lee took hostages at the Discovery Channel's building this morning, threatening to kill them unless allowed to air his grievances (His manifesto is here.) on air as well as institute a program based upon Daniel Quinn's book "My Ishmael". It was his contention that the Discovery Channel stood in the way of saving the world which he believed required the reduction in numbers of "filthy humans". Becoming increasingly agitated, the order was given and a police sniper shot and killed Lee."
