CIA Lied Over Brutal Interrogations

When you're beheaded you're dead...when you're water boarded or deprived of sleep you're inconvenienced. They are "slightly" different.

CIA Lied Over Brutal Interrogations

craigminah Re:Really? (769 comments)

Depriving people of sleep is not nearly as brutal as being beheaded by Islamic terrorists.

Obama Offers Funding For 50,000 Police Body Cameras

craigminah Part of the Solution (262 comments)

This is going to ensure police are held accountable but the root of the problem is the lack of respect people have for people of authority. Once suspects listen to police (e.g. stop running, don't resist, etc.) we'll have less problems.

Military Laser/Radio Tech Proposed As Alternative To Laying Costly Fiber Cable

craigminah Re:The Old is New again (150 comments)

MCI wasn't allowed (or didn't want to pay) to use the phone network that was laid in the ground so they installed microwave towers everywhere. I see high bandwidth lasers only being useful for military-like situations where you are either going to be somewhere for a short time or you need to control the transmission medium. Int he long-term, fiber has to be cheaper with much higher throughput than lasers.

KDE Releases Plasma 5.1

craigminah Re:Looks like a nice Cinnamon clone (60 comments)

I really like Cinnamon which to me seems like a leaner version of KDE. Effective, looks good, not too much crap going on (e.g. animations and other BS).

PETA Is Not Happy That Google Used a Camel To Get a Desert "StreetView"

craigminah Re:And? (367 comments)

"These days, jeeps are in common use in the desert..." Last time I checked, camels are also common in the desert so what's the problem?

Are the World's Religions Ready For ET?

craigminah Aliens = God? (534 comments)

Thinking about all the alien looking drawings in Mayan culture, stories of Atlantis, all the star-aligned cultures (Egyptian, Mayan, Easter Island, Stone Henge, etc.), stories from the Bible that seen extraterrestrial, etc. could it be that humans were put here by aliens and that humans in fact are aliens? If we evolved here, why do we sunburn so easily, why are we so different from all other animals on Earth, why are are biological clocks tuned for a 25 hour day? I've thought a lot of creatures on this planet looked alien but it's an interesting thought to me. Heck, dragons, zombies, and all the other "monster stories" could have been originated/existed on our alien forefathers home planet. I know this sounds kooky, but it's something I'm curious about and would like to hear what others think.

Surprise! More Than Twice As Much Mercury In Environment As Thought

craigminah Re:And don't forget mercury in the CFLs... (173 comments)

If you know anything about history it's the Republican party that freed the slaves and, "It emerged in 1854 to combat the Kansas–Nebraska Act, which threatened to extend slavery into the territories, and to promote more vigorous modernization of the economy." Democrats try to change history through repeated rhetoric saying what they want to be the truth and all the youth who get their news solely from Facebook or Twitter parrot their statements in a zombie-like monotone.

Surprise! More Than Twice As Much Mercury In Environment As Thought

craigminah Re:And don't forget mercury in the CFLs... (173 comments)

Rather than post something intelligent you point your finger at "those rascally Republicans"? CFLs are gnarly and contain mercury...EPA directions for cleaning a CFL break should scare people, but they are a small part of the problem (soon to be worse as CFLs really start filling our landfills). Those Republicans aren't anti-science no matter how many times you Liberals claim as such.

Why Women Have No Time For Wikipedia

craigminah Re:Discrimination (579 comments)

How about we admit men and women are different, with different interests, and desires? Who gives a crap if men and women do the same thing as long as nothing stopping them from trying? Eliminate discrimination from the selection process and I bet women still don't give a crap about Wikipedia or many other "male-dominated" fields...why must we force equal distribution of gender/race/etc in everything? Again, make sure the selection process is fair and let things be.

Parallax Completes Open Hardware Vision With Open Source CPU

craigminah Re:Limited utility. (136 comments)

Would it be easier to just use off the shelf items to build your data center and them spend money building an open source thing that sniffs all the packets looking for suspicious crap? I'm asking because I'm not sure it'd be easy to automate identification of "suspicious crap" in the outgoing data.
