Digg lets members fine advertisers

crizpiz Re:Slashdot (4 comments)

That is true, however Slashdot's advertisements are relatively noninvasive, and (somewhat) relivent. (dice anyone?) Digg conversely has those damn annoying auto playing flash and and blinking ads. If I had to view one sites advertisements over another, I would pick Slashdot's.

How Tor Helps Both Dissidents and the Police

crizpiz Tor and I2P are slow, but.. (122 comments)

I would really like projects like Tor, and I2P to get more support. Even the United States has problems with net filtering and network shaping. The more the telcos and government try to regulate the internet, the more people will turn to projects like these. Like trying to firmly grasp water in your hands.

Mariners Develop High Tech Pirate Repellents

crizpiz Re:A better plan? (830 comments)

Its not that its more humane to drown the pirates then to shoot them in the head, its a simple matter of insurance. The insurance price for a ship with guns is astronomically higher then one without. This is such a big deal that the merchant ships, such as the ones in this article, are looking for a way to protect themselves, and yet not pay the extra insurance costs.

Microsoft Begs Win 7 Testers To Clean Install

crizpiz Re:It's Good Advice for Any OS Install (420 comments)

I just keep my /home on a separate partition. This frees up my main Linux / partition free for all the reinstall(s) or reformatting I can handle. Also, I have my /home partition backed up every 2 weeks or so, depending on how much data throughput it has experienced.

Wow, I sincerely hope they have an enormous amount of bandwidth because the Slashdot effect on an 8.5 giga-pixel photo would be rediculious.
