ESA's Vega Launcher Has Successful Maiden Flight

Considering it's a 10cm^3 cube, it's good to know we still have our sense of (self-)irony :)

Google/Facebook: Do-Not-Track Threatens CA Economy

cronco Re:Silly (363 comments)

Why would it require a cookie for that? Wouldn't the "do-not-track" header be enough for that?

Facebook's Zuckerberg To Give Away Half His Cash

cronco Re:Huh... (450 comments)

The thing is AFAIK he is now estimated to have a fortune of about 6 billion dollars, and I expect he expects it to grow. Giving away 3 billion dollars still lets him live like a king and earn him public "karma". Anyone except the stupidest/most evil people around would do the same.

That would, probably once and for all, settle the debate if "gayness" is genetic or a "lifestyle choice".

Scientists Propose One-Way Trips To Mars

cronco Re:Little difference? (839 comments)

They had to spend months with only what drinkable water they could carry, which was at that time as daunting as it is now to carry the fuel(energy) needed to get to Mars

Ubuntu Dumps X For Unity On Wayland

cronco Re:A bit big for their britches? (640 comments)

Now they haven't. Fedora is the "bleeding-edge" distro, which regularly ships with beta software bundled. The only time I remember Ubuntu doing the same was with FF 3 beta, which was included in 8.10 if I'm not mistaken.

You can tag anything with any name on Facebook, it's just that the tag won't link to your profile if you don't have one.

NYTimes Confirms It Will Start Charging For Online News In 2011

True that. And advertisement-backed journalism doesn't really smell all that nice. The information market is still a market, and people still seem to forget.

Mozilla Starts To Follow a New Drumbeat

cronco Re:I have an idea (226 comments)

I completely agree with the last point. I am often amazed at the difference in experience in using FF on the same PC on Windows and then on Ubuntu. It really doesn't feel like the same browser, ie it lags even on a brand new PC on Ubuntu.

AFAIK, hoodies are a sign of aggressive youth in the UK (kind of a stereotype, really). They might be afraid to let the "riff raff" in.

Ubuntu's New Artwork

cronco cronco writes  |  more than 5 years ago

cronco writes "None of these themes are set as default, but the fact that they're introduced makes them note-worthy anyway.

In Ubuntu's upcoming version, 9.04, The Jaunty Jackalope, 3 new themes seem to have been added, and they all seem to have underplayed the importance of brown. Some see brown as Ubuntu's trademark, so will this be a good move?

I for one use Dust right now and I love it, it's sleek and it somehow mantains that Ubuntu feel (in the good way)."
