Extent of Antarctic Sea Ice Reaches Record Levels

crypticedge Re:Lets not forget (635 comments)

I know the Kochs tried to tell you the tea party was a non partisan movement, but it's still the same Bircher loon pile of rubbish it was in the 70's, and the same loon pile of rubbish it was when they were called robber barons. Fact is, the extremist right wing in America is the only spot that climate denial holds any water. Outside of there, anywhere else in the world, it's not even a question. We know for sure the Earth is warming, because we have decades of data showing it. We know for sure the ice is on a long downward trend, despite the 2 year improvements over the worst year on record that still don't put it above the previous second worse year on record because when you look at the big picture, not the pixel, it all becomes clear.

Big picture thinking is hard though, I don't expect you to understand it, just get out of the way of those of us who do.

Extent of Antarctic Sea Ice Reaches Record Levels

crypticedge Re:Lets not forget (635 comments)

Anyone who mentions "Agenda 21" falls squarely in the same pit of mentally deficient people as birthers, truthers, people who think the Illuminati is real, people who think we're all ruled by lizard men, people who think Hitler was a liberal and people who voted for John McCain or Mittens. There were padded room for these John Birch society members, but Reagan killed off the mental health care system knowing that the loons would be out and cause havoc. For now, all we can do is hope they wrap that tin foil tight enough to stop the blood flow for good.

New Nail Polish Alerts Wearers To Date Rape Drugs

crypticedge Re:Seriously, we're not rapists.... (595 comments)

Oh to have mod points right about now. This is exactly right. I know a lot of the MRA anti women sociopaths don't want to hear it, but it remains true that there are some savage men out there and sometimes they act on that savagery. People thinking this is an attack on men are the exact same men who use date rape drugs to get a girl to bed.

I was dating a woman who got hit with a date rape drug right around 2 years into our relationship. We would frequently go out drinking then go to a hotel and sleep/fuck it off. One night we were on our typical drink and fuck nights at a local bar and some guy was chatting her up when I went to the restroom. She was only on her second drink and she didn't catch it. Thankfully he left after I came back but she didn't catch that he slipped her something, and neither of us noticed until after the second drink was gone. We got her back to the room safe but never went back to that bar again.

Smartphone Kill Switch, Consumer Boon Or Way For Government To Brick Your Phone?

crypticedge Re:Why such paranoia ? (299 comments)

We knew the govt was snooping on all communications in the 80s, then again in the 90s, then again in 2006. Snowden is nothing new, and only repeating the same thing that's happened for longer than most slashdot users have been alive.

IRS Recycled Lerner Hard Drive

Well, ever since they discovered being president while black isn't impeachable, they've been trying to make up a plausible sounding reason to don the hoods and crosses.

IRS Recycled Lerner Hard Drive

crypticedge Re:Fox News? (682 comments)

I guess you don't understand how the 501 application process works. When you apply, you are able to operate as if you've already been approved until you get directly denied. Those groups were not prevented from operating as 501's, they were just asked to prove they qualify for the 501 status they applied for, even though their application was in violation of the 501 status they were after.

IRS Recycled Lerner Hard Drive

crypticedge Re:Fox News? (682 comments)

First - They investigated liberal groups as well & only denied a liberal group, no conservative ones at all.

Second - Per the tax code 501(c) status requires exclusive welfare activities, and directly states in the code no political activity. SCOTUS read exclusive to mean mostly, thus creating a new law illegally in the citizens united case.

Third - Fox is a republican owned propaganda network. There's no facts behind it.

Red Dwarfs Could Sterilize Alien Worlds of Life

crypticedge Re:Renaming (76 comments)

No. The habitable zone is the range where life (if all other subsequent conditions are met) may potentially exist.

It strictly means the distance from the star wouldn't burn off all the water or result in a giant ball of ice.

The rest of the factors are looked at after the habitable zone check, but aren't required for that check.

Seattle Approves $15 Per Hour Minimum Wage

crypticedge Re:Wages and prices are (mostly)independent variab (1040 comments)

That's basic economics. The wage goes up, but prices only have to go up a tiny fraction due to the distributed source of paying for that wage. It's not this 1 for 1 that people think, it never has been and it never will be. That argument is brought out every single time min wage is increased, and it gets proven wrong every single time.

The math has been done to prove in order to raise McDonalds workers wage to 15/hour, the price of a big mac would only need to go up by 43 cents. Thats all.

Comcast Predicts Usage Cap Within 5 Years

crypticedge Re:Make up your mind! (475 comments)

The right answer is take some of the massive profit and add more links to level 3 and other peers rather than claim it's slow because users are abusing it.

Department of Transportation Makes Rear View Cameras Mandatory

crypticedge Re:13 deaths? (518 comments)

How about this, if the cameras are kept optional, but anyone who backs up over another person, and they had previously rejected getting a camera is given life in prison with no appeals or parole?

Department of Transportation Makes Rear View Cameras Mandatory

crypticedge Re:13 deaths? (518 comments)

Over here in the US, if you try to regulate a proven safety feature to become standard, they think your trying to institute communism, fascism, and a terrorist all at once. The conservatives here basically won't be happy until they are allowed to blanket murder anyone and everyone for any reason and without recourse against them. That's why they deny the fact of climate science so much, because it's about to become the most effective tool to murder the entire population they could have ever dreamed up.

It's also inaccurate, read the source article and you'll find this editor made up numbers and didn't even try to shoot for accuracy.

Department of Transportation Makes Rear View Cameras Mandatory

crypticedge Re:Grabs popcorn (518 comments)

Minivans and SUV's will have them, and they back over more children than RV's and semi's do by far. I'm more concerned with the idiot driving the SUV than the guy driving the Semi, at least the guy in the semi has trained to drive a large vehicle. They let any idiot drive an SUV, see every hummer driver ever.

Department of Transportation Makes Rear View Cameras Mandatory

crypticedge Re:Grabs popcorn (518 comments)

No they won't, because it'll be part of the stock price. They'll either be in the market for a new car or they won't. If they aren't in the market for a new car, then taking the camera out of it won't change their mind.

On top of that, getting a camera on a new car from factory NOW is only around $100 additional, after market is the 500-600, because they have to dismantle portions to put it in.

Is the New "Common Core SAT" Bill Gates' Doing?

crypticedge Re:The danger of commonality (273 comments)

It's not everyone "learns the same thing" but more of everyone must learn the basic minimum standard that has been proven as true. No one is saying education can't exceed it, but it must meet it for sure.

They already do in most cases now. DSL/POTS are the only places they don't at this point. Cell and FIOS is entirely VOIP
