China's 'Green Dam' Software Program Near Collapse

dUN82 20m Yuan for stealing a sw? (46 comments)

Things work like this in China, if the gov or most of times a particular person who is in charge want sth to be done, and done quickly, you do it as required, and once you grabbed all the money you leave, no one actually cares what happens after wards. No public enquirers will be allowed to question how the gov spent tax money since that info is considered as state secret. You probably know that if you steal a s/w and do some localization work won't cost 20m yuan.

Best Phone For a Wi-Fi-Only Location?

dUN82 Try Siemens Gigaset (289 comments)

I am not sure if you would share a usb port on you PC or not, I have a Gigaset S450 [DECT]and Siemens M34 USB stick, which works wonderfully with the Skype, and you can use it for VoIP and landline calls, sw has a perfect intergration with skype and your address book, even checks your email and delivers a notification on your handset. I lost track of the Gigaset development, I know that they do stand-alone versions of those phones now that allow to use Skype or SIP provider of your choice. Gigaset is the best phone system I have ever used with good industrial design and excellent features, I do not understand why is it not that widely available here in the US.

Australian Government May Shelve Internet Filter

dUN82 vote for a government with an open internet policy (143 comments)

The bottom line is: in a democratic society, you always have the chance to vote for a government with an open internet policy, eg. the revoking of London congestion charges was immediately abolished by Boris Johnson. But for users in China, there is only one dominate party, which pretty much means no hopes for change, so AUS, CHN is two totally different situation.

One In Eight To Cut Cable and Satellite TV In 2010

dUN82 Gave up TV after moving to the US (502 comments)

TV viewer in UK, love UK TV programs, no ads and program quality is well high, good world news coverage, football, and international affair coverage such as World Cups, etc. I am fed up with TV in the US, rude and loud commercials are just horrible, personally I believe US has a fundamentally wrong approach. So I have stopped watching TV since 2007. I have Comcast internet only and will not pay for TV with stupid commercials. I would rather pay a higher price for a commercial free channel.

The Secret Lives of Amazon's Elves

dUN82 Good job amazon (202 comments)

Well done amazon, who went for the extra mile so customer like me don't have too. I think what amazon has done is fascinating and benefit the customer, who can get their on time w/o the extra delivery charge; the RV campers, who can get some extra buck themselves; and of course amazon itself. It is a very create idea, yet challenging form a business' perspective, I am glad to hear the general result has been positive. I think a lot more companies that are facing a fluctuated demand dilemma could be enlightened by such a idea. Well done amazon.

China Enforces Even Stricter Regulation On Games

dUN82 Game is a important medium in China (235 comments)

Another important reason why the government is posing more restrictions on gaming in China is due to game itself is becoming an important medium in China, which you can effectively reach the youth group in China [as well as the last US election]. Probably the only channel the government left in the wild without censorship for the past decade. Young people in China really don't have much option to choose a hobby, the only thing that is cheap and people can have fun is online gaming, that is why internet cafes are still filled with young people and underage children [gov require to be 18 to enter internet cafes in china during schools which is poorly enforced].

Home Phone System That Syncs To Computer?

dUN82 Siemens Gigaset (405 comments)

I am using a Siemens Gigaset system along with a Siemens M34 USB dongle, which allows you to manage directory form your PC and Skype etc, but you have to do it via outlook, which is painful as well. Personally, I found google contacts to be the most useful across platforms that can be a feature for home telephone that can be further explored. There are later Gigaset phones that allow you to simply copy your sim contacts from your mobile phone to your home phone or batch send it via bluetooth, but I found Siemens phones are not very popular in the US, which it strange because I found Gigaset phones are far more superior in call clarity, os friendliness and have better industrial design and build quality, and runs on standard AAA batteries instead of those battery packs.
