New Face Paint Protects Soldiers Against Bomb Blasts

da5idnetlimit.com Re:"I like turtles" (107 comments)

just, democratic[...] government

Ok, I'll bite...
Just AND Democratic is nigh impossible. Masses have a tendency to create their own exclusion zone. We have a few centuries of classical greek and roman histories to illustrate the point of view of Democracy. More recently the USSR and other 'democratic' countries have shown how fast a democratic government can grow sour.

Also we live in a Republic, and not a place where "every voice counts". It's too easy to manipulate the masses in a democratic system, as the Game Theory that would allow a democratic world is unapplicable, the conditions being that all participant are fully informed AND take the most logical decision to maximise gains.

Just AND Government is also quite difficult to define, except if you consider 'Just' as meaning that the laws are applied the same to everybody, which in itself is a nice intellectual consideration.

Please remember that we do not have the BEST system, just one of the less bad...

Now a perfect democratic system is the Tyranny. One vote, that of the tyrant. All the rest are equals.
But then it might not be your preferred system ?

Japanese Team Finds New Source of Rare Earth Elements

da5idnetlimit.com Bump :Definition of terms (215 comments)

To paraphrase a comment I read on this :

In the mining industry there is possibly two words for those rare metal deposit : ore, and dirt.

Ore is the state where you can collect it for less than the market price and make a benefit.

Dirt is the other one, aka 5 km deep underwater where the cost of recovering it TODAY would WAY exceed the possible ore value.

da5idnetlimit.com provided by business (601 comments)

if provided by business, most of the times you will get a blackberry, just like I did.
And it will all be managed by a disgruntled windows admin allowing you almost no possibility to install anything on it, or change any of the options.

So basically I have a dumbphone where I can also write emails, but blackberry big.

New Study Links Video Games and Mental Problems

da5idnetlimit.com 1/10th... (306 comments)

1/10th of ppl are subject to mental deficiencies of some sort
Because of that 1/10th, we cannot drink in the street, smoke cannabis, drive fast, etc...mostly because that small fringe of the population cannot cope with it.

So I propose we start discriminating on those 1/10th of the population and stop making the live of the 9/10th miserable. Wanna smoke dope ? have a psy check. Wanna drive fast ? have a "left lane permit". Wanna drink in the street ? "pass a binge check and prove you are not agressive when you drink.

You fail ? I still get to enjoy life....

Thousands companies share with NSA

da5idnetlimit.com da5idnetlimit.com writes  |  about a year and a half ago

da5idnetlimit.com (410908) writes "Bloomberg is reporting that the recent NSA Prism scandal is just a tiny scratch on the privacy surface. Citing "four people familiar with the process", the agency claims that in fact thousands of technology, finance and manufacturing companies work with US national security.
Interestingly it explains, for instance, how Microsoft gives government agencies a heads-up when it comes to bug fixesâ"and two sources describe how the news is used to exploit vulnerabilities in software sold to foreign governments.

On a side note maybe we can thank the NSA for giving more steam to Linux on the desktop. And on servers. And routers 8)"

Seems someone is going after my older posts and adding (removing, really) some troll or overrated karma mods on whatever I wrote.

Usually after 5-6 days have passed I find that 4-5 older posts have lost points, and all those posts are moderated in a negative way, and all those mods happen in the same day.

funny, no ?

Someone out there dislikes me enough to go to the trouble of investing his karma points on me...
And he/she/it didn't even put him/her/itself if my foes list...

A person that seems to feel that I think my slashdot karma level has an importance to me, btw.

So I think I have an Anonymous Foe.

well, I won't lose sleep on that.

But maybe I will start a sig on that subject.
