Bradley Manning Makes Statement

das3cr The pitty of it all (440 comments)

is that he wont have to answer for the deaths of his fellow service members his reckless actions caused.

1. He's a traitor.
2. He should he executed. I know he isn't. Not by the Gov.t Once again, we have to hope that the deserved final justice will be handed out by the people we have already convicted.

How Many Seconds Would It Take To Crack Your Password?

das3cr Re:Huh. (454 comments)

You may not be factoring in distributed computing. I don't know how many computers the average bot net contains, but I'm sure you could set up a bot net to crack passwords. Distributed.net has been doing it for over a decade.

Best Buy Chairman and Founder Resigns Ahead of Schedule

das3cr Hard choices (322 comments)

I've been burnt by BB in the past with their service. Since then I have not purchased a single item from them. Having said that they where one of my few choices. BB, Office Max and if I'm up for a drive ... Fry's.

I might have to find a local shop to start a relationship with. If I can find any with personality I like.

Troops In Afghanistan Supplied By Robot Helicopter

das3cr Fatigue. (140 comments)

Hopefully this will allow human operators to get by with a little less fatigue. Lesson their op tempo a little.

And do more with less. In this case, we have a need to deliver more cargo and we have won't need as many pilots to do it.

Tech Forensics Take Center Stage in Manning Pre-Trial

Indeed ... I foresee him getting a lot of exercise at the USDB ... making little rocks out of big ones for the rest of his life.

Tech Forensics Take Center Stage in Manning Pre-Trial

das3cr Re:Military vs. Civilian Justice (172 comments)

Most likely he was held in solitary for his own benefit. Contrary to what a lot of people want to believe ... most military people don't like traitors.

Tech Forensics Take Center Stage in Manning Pre-Trial

das3cr Re:Military vs. Civilian Justice (172 comments)

It's seperate because he is charged under the UCMJ and not under civilian law or statute. There are a lot of good reasons for this. For example. Commanders maintain good order and discipline within the ranks by administering punishments as laid out under the UCMJ. Non judicial punishments for smaller infractions and Judicial punishments for those infractions that demand it.

Tech Forensics Take Center Stage in Manning Pre-Trial

das3cr Re:Military vs. Civilian Justice (172 comments)

All of the evidence matters. Right now, the Art 32 hearing is just that. It's an assessing of the evidence to see if there is enough evidence to proceed with a trial. The difference being that the procedures, laws and regulations are from the Uniform Code of Military Justice.

The trial will be fair. All the evidence will be considered.

In Nuclear Power, Size Matters

das3cr Sounds great (230 comments)

Lets just hope they aren't made in china and shipped here.

From what I hear ... the things they are having factory made and shipped into the US from china to use in the nuke plants is of dubious quality. There was a time when the US would only use items made in the US at nuke plants. They seriously need to go back to that.

DARPA Commits To Funding Useful Hacking Projects

das3cr That is all well and good. (44 comments)

But what is DARPA, or anyone else for that matter, about making sure chips made in china don't have bugs built in?

I /refuse/ to purchase an item that is known to me to have chips made in china because I believe it to be compromised.

How can one be sure that the hardware in the devices made there are not bugged?

White House Explains Transport-Energy Future

das3cr Re:The Wrong Plan (358 comments)

Show me again where Amtrak is making me money. I somehow missed that headline. 7:1 .... where is all the money ... I want 7:1 return on every dime we have put into Amtrak. And heck .. if this was such a great money maker everyone would be doing it. But they are not. Even cities with huge public transport systems (LA for instance) ... sell off their public transport assets and ;lease them back. If they where making 7:1 returns there is no way they would have to do such foolish things.

Why Does the US Cling To Imperial Measurements?

das3cr Re:morons (2288 comments)

I don't think they would .. I think they would revolt. As soon as someone figures out they are getting hosed even worse by the gasoline companies by being forced to purchase the get less for more liter .... and as soon as no one could figure out how far anything was anymore because of some fool calling it a meter instead of a mile ... people would go nuts and demand a return to normal measure. And don't even get me started on the lunacy of C vs F ... nope ... Leave it all imperial until after I'm dead thank you very much.

E-Book Sales Have Tripled In the Last Year

das3cr Re:regauarding e books (204 comments)

The wife and I both re-read the entire Wheel of Time series every time there is a new book published. And Yes, the collection of books in the house has actually grown past the space we have to store them all. But that's ok ... we are getting some new shelves soon. LOL

I can see some appeal to e books. But for me ... someone who /still/ prefers a printed version of whatever media I'm looking at the appeal of another dead battery housing is pretty much null. After all ... I already have flashlights and cell phones for storing dead batteries. Do I really need something else for that?

I shall miss Call For Help and The Screen Savers.

They DID help alot of people stay "current" or up to date & helped the newbs out at the same time. While not always 100% acurate on some things they did give honest answers and reviews. Gonna really miss some of them...smile...tug ear loab....think back on that sweater "whats her name" was wearing...LOl
