Sun Unleashes Most Powerful Flare Since 2006

djtachyon Re:Give it to me straight (100 comments)

If the flare had been directed towards the earth, what would have happened?

A better question; what if this X-WHATEVER FLARE! (X 28) flare from November 2003 was pointed towards us?

Verizon Cracks Down On Jailbreak Tethering

djtachyon Re:How do they tell? (286 comments)

Well my HTC Sensation 4G on T-Mobile came with completely non-crippled Gingerbread & Sense 3.0 (which is bearable). It comes with USB Tethering, Reverse USB Tethering (getting on PC's network), Wifi Hotspot, etc... No charges, and I get around 5Mbit downloads. Great phone in general!

Comcast's 105MBit Service Comes With Data Cap

djtachyon Re:I'm using the 105Mbit service and the cap is re (372 comments)

Actually it says 250G*bit*, so 250/8 = ~31.25GB/month.

I'll stick with Cablevision's Optimum Ultra. An extra $50 a month on top of their Boost plan (30down/5up) for 101Gbit down (where do you think that 105 came from? ;) ) / 15 Gbit up. Plus free webspace, domain name, ability to open port 80 and 25 for web hosting, and best of all, no capping that I know of.

But, either way, thank goodness for competition.

Extinct Mammoth, Coming To a Zoo Near You

djtachyon Re:before you do it (312 comments)

I like their Dogfish Head's 9000 year old beer recipe a lot more, and not just because it's older. You should be able to find some here and there at the moment .. it is "in season". Don't get me wrong, I just had a bottle of Theobroma, it is very good too!

If You Don't Want Your Car Stolen, Make It Pink

djtachyon Re:Or you could (390 comments)

It's the opposite in most other countries. My friend grew up in Brazil and his family was fairly well off. They owned a few cars, all automatic. One day they looked outside to find their car missing. They found it a couple hundred feet down the road with it stuck in first gear. Most people there have never even heard of an automatic, and they ditched it because they didn't know how to drive it.

Verizon CEO Says "We Will Hunt Heavy Users Down"

djtachyon Re:Oh No, you're using the service you paid for! (738 comments)

ARGH!! Stop saying FIOS is the best bandwidth in the country. Have you heard of Optimum Online Ultra? 101Mbit down, 15 Mbit up. I'm pretty sure thats faster than FIOS 50Mbit down, 20 Mbit up. And Ultra is $100/mo compared to FIOS $140/mo.

India First To Build a Supersonic Cruise Missile

Not to mention our soon-to-be-tested HYPER-sonic cruise missile: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Boeing_X-51. That's a Mach 6, Maneuverable, Scramjet, Cruise Missile. Bitches.

djtachyon writes ""The fruit fly Drosophila subobscura has been evolving bigger wings in higher latitudes in North and South America; mosquitoes that live in pitcher plants hunker down for the winter later in the year than they used to; in a forest in southern England, great tits have been shrinking (great tits are songbirds).""

djtachyon writes "The recent article states that the laptop cause is still under investigation.

"The news that authorities are having a laptop computer examined from the tragic Nebraska Wesleyan University fraternity fire struck an unhappily familiar chord."

"Authorities say they still don't know what started the Wesleyan fraternity fire, and the suspect laptop has been sent to the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms for analysis.""
