An Algorithm To Prevent Twitter Hashtag Degeneration

dnebin Re:Golly ... (162 comments)

That has been most people's reaction. Many just like reading the abuse thrown at Bennett, but not once has anyone said anything positive about Bennett or his opinions. No one signs the petition because, after all, we tend to be a hugely cynical bunch. But unless we try something, slashdot will keep posting his crap and everyone will keep complaining. Slashdot won't do anything because there's no coordinated effort to actually tell them he sucks and they should get rid of his shit. So he keeps posting crap, slashdot puts it up, everyone tells him to go stuff a dick in his ass and the circle remains unbroken and keeps repeating multiple times per month.

So yes, moveon.org sucks, yes we are all cynical and don't believe the petition will do anything, and even if everyone who complains about him were to sign up, there's no reason to believe slashdot would do anything about it. But at least it's an attempt to get something done, which is more than anyone in any of bennett's posts has done...

Yahoo Stops New Development on YUI

dnebin dnebin writes  |  about 4 months ago

dnebin (594347) writes "Yahoo announced that they will cease new development on their javascript framework YUI, bowing to industry trends towards Node.js, Angular, etc.

The consequence of this evolution in web technologies is that large JavaScript libraries, such as YUI, have been receiving less attention from the community. Many developers today look at large JavaScript libraries as walled gardens they don’t want to be locked into. As a result, the number of YUI issues and pull requests we’ve received in the past couple of years has slowly reduced to a trickle. Most core YUI modules do not have active maintainers, relying instead on a slow stream of occasional patches from external contributors. Few reviewers still have the time to ensure that the patches submitted are reviewed quickly and thoroughly.

Why does Slashdot now hate Firefox?

dnebin dnebin writes  |  more than 3 years ago

dnebin (594347) writes "Slashdot now seems to hate Firefox. Javascript is broken, requiring double clicks on things in Firefox that work correctly in other browsers. And it's been that way for some time now; it is not like these problems were introduced yesterday and I'm now complaining. So I'm forced to ask, why does Slashdot now hate Firefox?"
