What I find interesting in this discussion is that everyone is obsessing over the technology aspects of the decision (which I suppose is natural for fans of this site), but nobody has speculated about the impact this might have on the existing highly corrupt process of textbook selection. For some background, see "Lies My Teacher Told Me" (ISBN 978-0743296281) and Richard Feynman's account of his aborted attempt to sit on a textbook selection committee for the state of California ( The material may be a bit dated, but I'm not sure how much change has taken place since those anecdotes were written.
