Child Thought To Be Cured of HIV Relapses, Tests Positive Again

drew_92123 Once infected, always infected. (126 comments)

There is no cure, and likely never will be.

The only thing that people who are already infected have to look forward to are better and easier treatments, bi-weekly or monthly dosing may soon be possible instead of the daily dosing now required. Maybe somebody they'll come up with a implant that provides constant meds for 5 years... but a cure? Not likely...

I copy all of my non-changing files to a a special directory and have the backup app I use compare them to another copy and alert me of any changes. At any one time I have 3-4 copies of my important files on separate disks PLUS my backups. Cuz fuck losing files! ;-)

US Marshals Seize Police Stingray Records To Keep Them From the ACLU

drew_92123 Re:Preventing Stingray from working (272 comments)

Signal strength is an unreliable measurement of how far you are from a transmitter in many circumstances, sometimes walking from one room to the next in a building cuts your signal strength in half...

Instead you might focus on the the delay between the phone and the tower to get your distance and compare that to a list of know tower locations and the phones current location using the built in gps receiver leaving a fudge factor of maybe two hundred feet.

But then you also have to take into account all the femtocells out there in poor reception areas as well as the cells they sometimes temporarily put in place for special events...

Oklahoma Botched an Execution With Untested Lethal Injection Drugs

drew_92123 Re:so? (1198 comments)

While I think your use of that word is deplorable, I have to agree, who gives a shit.

Giving criminals decades on death row with three meals a day and a promise of a painless death isn't exactly a deterrent to criminal behavior.

Feed the scum the cheapest dog food you can find and make the executions as long and as painful as possible, perhaps that will give these criminals a reason to rethink their lives?

ARIN Is Down To the Last /8 of IPv4 Addresses

drew_92123 Re:Wasn't allocation always the problem? (306 comments)

I used to work for an ISP, we had a few class Bs and a bunch of class Cs, I remember the first time we were running low and decided to check what our customer that had been assigned blocks of addresses were actually using... maybe 10% were actually in use.

We started assigning smaller blocks to companies that couldn't justify keeping their existing blocks but soon gave up. People are greedy, even with something as seemingly simple as reclaiming unneeded addresses. It was like trying to pry a steak out of a starving dogs mouth... just not a good idea.

Racing To Contain Ebola

drew_92123 Re:Nuke it from orbit... (112 comments)

Prissy little "save everybody" b!tches like you are the reason the world is overpopulated and filled with misery. Got a country of people starving to death? Nuke em... no more pain or hunger! Got a disease spreading that kills most who catch it and no cure or treatment? Nuke em... No more disease! See... it all makes perfect sense.

FAA Shuts Down Search-and-Rescue Drones

drew_92123 Re:Fuck the FAA (218 comments)

Somehow I don't think the local police or sheriff are going to turn down the help regardless of what the FAA says. Seems to me the potential bad press due a a fatality should he not be allowed to help would be enough to keep them away... Of course everybody seems to be going crazy these days so who knows.

If that shit gets loose and starts infecting thousands or millions there might not be much of a choice... I say kill a few, maybe save a billion. Whats wrong with that?

Publicly Available Russian Election Results Hint At Fraud

drew_92123 What did you expect? (304 comments)

Of course the results are fraudulent... they just aren't as good at hiding that shit as our politicians are. Of course, over there they just shoot people for asking the wrong questions whereas over here the government pretends to give a shit and gives politicians a slap on the wrist for getting caught...
