Mozilla Scraps Firefox For Windows 8, Citing Low Adoption of Metro

drinkmoreyuengling Riiiiight (200 comments)

So Windows 8 has too low a market share but desktop Linux support is a great investment of time. Mozilla is the same organization that tried to make an antitrust stink out of the Metro browser as well. They seem to have a vested interest in portraying it as failure.

Google Blurring Distinction Between Ads and Organic Search Results

drinkmoreyuengling Re:Slippery slope (187 comments)

True, but if the business is to trick you into clicking the paid link instead of the algo link, then why don't we just be honest about it and go back to paid placement?

Google Blurring Distinction Between Ads and Organic Search Results

drinkmoreyuengling Re:Do not overreacht please (187 comments)

Did you even bother to look? There's no overreachtion here. I just ran the same query and saw the same thing. It's not an A/B test, and it's been this way for a while.

FLOSS Codecs Emerge Victorious In Wikimedia Vote

drinkmoreyuengling Re:Why does Wikimedia hate batteries? (235 comments)

Having Android as the OS doesn't magically make the phone capable of hardware decoding the video. They all have the same problem. Your Faux-open operating system doesn't solve that.

Financing College With a Tax On All Graduates

drinkmoreyuengling I'm still paying mine off! (597 comments)

Between undergrad and graduate school I am still paying it off and I'm pushing 40. So now I'm supposed to pay my own way (plus interest) and pay a tax so that everyone after me goes for free and without any real appreciation of the cost of doing so?? Screw that. The last thing we need is thousands more comparative literature BA graduates working at Starbucks with my tax dollars paving the way.

Facebook Estimates Around 10% of Accounts Are Fake

drinkmoreyuengling Re:Translating to real-life (140 comments)

If all of your friends on facebook are people you've never met, then isn't it possible you are responsible for your own crappy experience? I only friend people that, you know, I am actually friends with. My experience on facebook is great. Garbage in, garbage out.

AMC Theaters Allegedly Calls FBI to Interrogate a Google Glass Wearer

drinkmoreyuengling Re:Lesson from this story...don't be a glass hole! (1034 comments)

Which suggests to me that the Glass Hole in question was an incredulous jerk when confronted hopping on his high horse refusing to cooperate, leading to the authorities getting involved. Even movie theater employees recognize that bringing law enforcement in to get rid of somebody is not good for business.

AMC Theaters Allegedly Calls FBI to Interrogate a Google Glass Wearer

drinkmoreyuengling Re:Lesson from this story...don't be a glass hole! (1034 comments)

For starters, they'll always notice that you are 'that guy' wearing Google Glass. In case you haven't noticed, you people don't exactly blend in.

Windows 8 and Windows 8.1 Pass 10% Market Share, Windows XP Falls Below 30%

drinkmoreyuengling Re:Windows 8 task bars on every monitor (470 comments)

I hear this critique a lot, yet I've never once read complaints of how iOS app shutdown works. Hint- they copied the Metro method except you swipe up instead of down.

Windows 8 and Windows 8.1 Pass 10% Market Share, Windows XP Falls Below 30%

drinkmoreyuengling Re:Whinners. (470 comments)

Amusing, since "I hate it so everybody else who doesn't is a shill" seems to be the prevailing wisdom around here.

Drive With Google Glass: Get a Ticket

drinkmoreyuengling the face of Google Glass (638 comments)

I went to that first link and had a look at some of the clowns commenting on the G+ thread. Even the typical /. crowd would shun these people as dorks. Google Glass could cure cancer and make you able to fly, and they are NEVER going to sell these things when that is the face of the product.

The Android SDK Is No Longer Free Software

drinkmoreyuengling Re:But Android is open (535 comments)

Judging by your comment history, your having some "fucking perspective" applies uniquely to the companies that you like (or work for?). Your Nokia/Microsoft comment from Dec 5 is particularly rich in this light. Glass houses

Ask Slashdot: How To Gently Keep Management From Wrecking a Project?

drinkmoreyuengling Maybe you are wrong (276 comments)

One of the problems with taking your position is you might be wrong. I know it's popular on /. to trash anyone with a business degree as a know nothing douchebag, but sometimes perspective outside of the core engineering effort can pay dividends. Instead of trashing the guy and trying to go over his head to torpedo his job, try working with him. You might be surprised what happens if you take a constructive tone.

Why Microsoft's Surface Pro Could Fail

drinkmoreyuengling Re:Stupid (442 comments)

Plenty of people seem to be failing to understand that a tablet is not and never will be a laptop replacement for doing laptop style things. Including microsoft it would appear, who are designing products by committee/feature tickbox sheet without any thoughts as to what it will be used for in the real world.

The only reason you think the tablet cannot be a laptop replacement is because Steve Jobs told you so. Some, like me, don't like schlepping around a second device because I might need the other. I'm not sure it will work, but it might. And for that I will give it a try.
