Under Armour/Lockheed Suit Blamed For US Skating Performance

dubdays Re:Dice Blamed for Beta (357 comments)

Hey, as long as the shot put, hammer throw, and Greco-Roman wrestling require some kind of apparel, I'd be cool with that.

Super Bowl Ads: Worth the Price Or Waste of Time?

dubdays Re:Radio Shack Ad Best So Far (347 comments)

I want the Radio Shack of the 80s back. Really, anything would be better than the abomination it's been turned into.

The Biggest Tech Mishap of 2013?

dubdays Re:Windows 8.1 (162 comments)

The implementation of which (if you can call it that) is just as useless as not having one at all. MSFT basically said "fuck you" and gave us a useless little button that doesn't do anything new.

The Biggest Tech Mishap of 2013?

dubdays Re:That's easy.... (162 comments)

Healthcare.gov? That's a junior league fuck-up... I nominate the NSA for getting pwned and punked by one Edward Joseph Snowden who walked out of their secure computer facility with all of Americas dirty laundry on a USB stick.

Too bad it's pretty much amounted to nothing positive thus far. The president hasn't done shit to change anything, congress critters NEVER do shit (except contribute massive amounts of CO2 to the atmosphere), and the general public pretty much doesn't give a shit. Don't get me wrong, Snowden's a hero in my book, but the revelations really haven't had a significant impact on US society as a whole, sad as that may be.

The year of the Linux desktop. But, dammit, 2014 is DEFINITELY going to be THE year!!!

The Biggest Tech Mishap of 2013?

dubdays All of the above (162 comments)

Let's face it...BB is circling the toilet bowl, the Facebook skin was DOA, and the Healthcare.gov launch was a farce. They're all shit...the only difference is the smell.

Mars Express Orbiter Buzzes Martian Moon Phobos

dubdays Re:Wow. What a moon. (39 comments)

What a crappy black rock.

Okay, I was wrong...the photo was black and white. It would have been nice if they shot it with a color camera (unless, of course, that's coming later).

Not to take anything away from the orbiter team, but damn...that moon looks almost as exciting as a lump of coal. What a crappy black rock.

Google and Microsoft To Block Child-Abuse Search Terms

dubdays Depressing job (308 comments)

I'm not going to comment on whether or not this is a good idea or not. However, I will say that 200 Google employees had to code and test this. That has to be one of the shittiest jobs I can think of. Maybe it could be rewarding in some way, but damn.

RC Plane Attack 'Foiled,' Say German Authorities

dubdays Re:Hyperbole, anyone? (233 comments)

Seriously, though. A big RC plane can carry enough explosives to cause chaos in a crowd, perhaps even severe injuries.

I don't deny that (it'd have to be a fairly big RC plane, though). It's the "state-threatening" part I take issue with.

RC Plane Attack 'Foiled,' Say German Authorities

dubdays Re:Hyperbole, anyone? (233 comments)

...state-threatening act of violence.

Unless the model plane is the size of a 747 or the explosive is anit-matter, how is that a "... state-threatening act of violence." Is Germany in such dire straits that a single model aircraft can topple a whole country?

Exactly what I though when I first read TFS. I mean seriously, a bomb-laden RC plane couldn't take out a random balcony. They'd be better off strapping C-4 to a bunch of swallows (European, of course).

Robot Dominates Air Hockey, Adapts To Opponents' Playing Style

dubdays Re:looks like it blocks if it would go to the hole (49 comments)

Yeah, sounds like fun...a robot that whips my ass at air hockey every single time. What will they come up with next? A robot that chases me down with nunchucks and just beats the shit out of me? Woo hoo!

Ask Slashdot: What To Do With New Free Time?

dubdays Re:Volunteer work (299 comments)

Use your skills (or learn new skills) to help people who can't pay you back. I am a volunteer firefighter/EMT and the biggest joy is when the frail old lady you just helped thanks you. I'm sure you can find a number of places where you can make a difference.

Absolutely...MOD UP!!! I've been an EMT, and I completely agree with this. I love IT, but if I could be an EMT full-time without having to worry about making money, I'd do it in a heartbeat.

Was Google's Motorola Mobility Acquisition a Mistake?

dubdays Re:Stopped reading at Florian (189 comments)

THIS. Why does this guy seem to end up as an "expert" in so many of these patent-related articles? The guy's an idiot and has been downright wrong so many times it's laughable. /., please let us filter out any articles with the word "Florian" in it. It would at least give me back a few minutes of my life every month.

Texas Company's Antique Computers Are For Production, Not Display

dubdays Re:no (289 comments)

No offense AC, but there is an element of "stupid" to doing this. How are you going to fix it if it breaks, and more importantly, what will it cost? Also, the same thing could very likely be done with off the shelf commodity hardware and some cheap (or free) accounting software. Accounting productivity would be DRAMATICALLY increased just in the amount of time saved each day. Sounds to me like someone in that company is lacking some serious business sense. Punched cards had their day, but that day is long gone.

AMD Radeon HD 7990 Released: Dual GPUs and 6G of Memory for $1000

...how fast can it mine Bitcoins.

For that price, it had better hash at 1 GH/s! Money, money, money, money! ....MONEY! (at least until the next crash in what will probably be--at the rate that shit is happening--the very near future :-/ )
