Ask Slashdot: What To Do With New Free Time?

edsousa Volunteer work (299 comments)

Use your skills (or learn new skills) to help people who can't pay you back.
I am a volunteer firefighter/EMT and the biggest joy is when the frail old lady you just helped thanks you. I'm sure you can find a number of places where you can make a difference.

A Copyright Nightmare

edsousa Re:How is it different from a play? (411 comments)

They have right to their "image", not *copy* rights to the image (picture). They can prevent you (the photographer) of using/selling/distributing/whatever the picture if certain cases, like if they were in a place where they expected privacy or the image is being used to suggest they were endorsing some company/product, etc...

Apple Fined By Italy For Misleading Customers About Warranty Terms

edsousa Re:Apple got off lightly... (218 comments)

Just a update on a new EU directive that states that if the replacement is a brand new device, a new 2-year warranty period begins. Also, for the time your device is sent for repair the warranty "countdown" is suspended.

Apple Fined By Italy For Misleading Customers About Warranty Terms

edsousa Re:Apple got off lightly... (218 comments)

After Portugal passed the EU directive into law, I grew used to hear from the sales clerk at various stores if I buy any device worth 50 eur or more: "and this is your invoice. Keep it as it serves as your warranty certificate, valid for two years"

edsousa Re:E-Series Nokia or other WiFi-capable Symbian ph (289 comments)

I got a 5800 Xpress Music for $250, and it works great: WiFi calls using skype/fring work almost flawlessly (ofc depends on your internet connection) Also, GPS with free OVI maps & navigation for life makes the phone a sweet deal.

This won't affect anybody: those users that aren't very computer literate don't even know that help exists and is one key away... the other ones already know that windows help won't lead you anywhere!

Former Congressman Learns About Streisand Effect

edsousa Re:Title wrong (527 comments)

And as former state legislator guess what legislation he pressed on..... Wait for it....

While Ted Klaudt served in the legislature, his name was attached to several bills designed to protect children from sex abuse. Klaudt served in the South Dakota House from 1998 to 2006. He served on the appropriations as well as the government operations and audit committees. And while in office, he co-sponsored several bills that took aim at sex offenders.

Hulu Blocks International Access Via Witopia

edsousa Re:Legal obligation to dub? (256 comments)

I don't believe there are any requirements that the programs be dubbed in EU states (but I'm willing to look at any evidence to the contrary).

Don't need to. I'm from Portugal, and in here, every movie or tv-show (except Shrek's and other kids movies) is presented in its original language, let it be english, french, chinese or martian, (with subtitles of course).

Hacker Redirects Barack Obama's site to hillaryclinton.com

edsousa edsousa writes  |  more than 6 years ago Netcraft shows that a security weakness in Barack Obama's website has been exploited to redirect visitors to Hillary Clinton's website. Visitors who viewed the Community Blogs section of the site were instead presented with Clinton's website as a result of a cross-site scripting vulnerability.
While Clinton and Obama are battling it out in the political arena, security researchers are continuing to find vulnerabilities in the candidates' and supporters' websites.
