Jesse Jackson To Take On Silicon Valley's Lack of Diversity

ender9441 Other proportions (397 comments)

I wonder what percent of the US population is Indian or Asian. Wikipedia shows 4.8 % Asian American. I work with a disproportionately high number of Asian Americans and Russians at my current job. Previous jobs have had disproportionately high numbers of people from India and Pakistan.

Doctors Say New Pain Pill Is "Genuinely Frightening"

ender9441 End the war on plants (294 comments)

Why not use something completely safe that is impossible to overdose on and is easy to grow in yourself? It is ludicrous for a plant to be illegal. Marijuana is a solution to many pain problems as well as anxiety, depression, etc.

The Phone Dragnet That Caught the World's Top Drug Lord

ender9441 End the war on drugs (62 comments)

We could end most drug related crime by simply legalizing drugs. No one would compete with $4 known quantity and quality drugs from Wal*Mart. Oh yeah, and quit caging non-violent humans for possessing plants.

Why Can't Big Government Launch a Website?

ender9441 Re:The reason is private insurance (786 comments)

I had my own individual plan through BCBSKS. It had acceptable coverage that was mutually beneficial. The plan will longer exist due to new legislation on Jan 1, 2014. "If you like your health care plan, you will be able to keep your health care plan" - BHO. Sure, seems legit.

Oh, by the way, the people we displaced from power are Islamic Extremists, who deny basic education to women, recruit children into their armies, and are all around bad guys.

How are American public schools doing at educating girls or boys? Does the US military still recruit in the public schools?

Gubernatorial Candidate Wants to Sell Speeding Passes for $25

ender9441 Re:Cue increase in accidents (825 comments)

Licenses to drive try to ensure that everyone has a minimum skill set before getting behind the wheel and potentially killing others. That program takes a lot of manpower and resources. The licenses by comparison are really not that much.

My wife just renewed her license in Kansas. There is currently no driving test, no written test, no eye exam, nothing. You just pay $20 and get your picture taken. No driving skills required.

US Marine Corps Bans Social Networking Sites

ender9441 Re:YRO (202 comments)

Because they signed on the dotted line to uphold and defend the Constitution, they lose part of their free speech.

That may be the case, but it is comical that they are supposedly denied constitutional rights in order to preserve them. It's like perpetual war for peace, or as George Carlin would say, screwing for virginity.

Broke Counties Turn Failing Roads To Gravel

ender9441 Re:Gravel roads are cheap but need more maintenanc (717 comments)

Where I live, in Kansas, the trucks average about 50 mph on gravel roads. I usually drive about 60 mph on the gravel roads in a Mazda 626. When you grow up driving gravel roads, you learn to compensate and handle differing road conditions. Fresh gravel is the only thing that causes a major speed reduction. The worst part is when the road maintainer trenches the ditch and the next rain causes part of the road to slide into the ditch.

Should IT Unionize?

ender9441 Re:Hell no. (1141 comments)

The point is not if the wiring is done according to code or passes inspection. It is if the wiring is done correctly. I built my current house, and I can tell you that the inspections are not exhaustive and the inspector will attempt to fail you for something, even if it is trivial, on the first inspection. I always passed the second inspection. I failed my first electrical inspection and had to move a can light 12 inches to allow clearance of 12 inches below it in a closet. The inspector did not look at the breaker box or the breaker ratings or even that I used the correct gauge wire for circuits.
