Your Old CD Collection Is Dying

enzo_romeo Re:Really??? (329 comments)

Yeah, my parachute pants may not fit anymore but my Whitesnake CDs play as well as they did back in the 80s. But some of my CDs from that era are unplayable when they don't show any visible scratches.

For 2012's U.S. tax season ...

enzo_romeo Re:Already filed and sent money (526 comments)

Well said PraiseBob. I think it can be taken for granted what civilization is and how we actually have to pay dues to maintain it. For some reason I never hear that argument in the media. I like having clean water, roads, a sewage system, electricity, police, a fire department, laws, parks, etc. I'd hate to have to shop around for those services on craigslist to get the best deal, or try to do it on my own. Nope, happy to pay my taxes. I think of it as paying rent for civilization.

Minority Report's Legacy of Terrible Interfaces

enzo_romeo Re:so they're saying... (305 comments)

Yeah, most of the time in the movies they're just trying to kill everyone. So no big loss on me they don't work like that. Though I admit I would enjoy using Siri more if she were more like GlaDOS. She should at least have a sense of humor if she's going to give me the wrong information.

Wonder what he used. I know if I were going up to the space station it would take me a while to decide on what lenses to bring.

Adobe Releases Flash To HTML 5 Converter

enzo_romeo Re:From the Article.. (168 comments)

Totally agree with you on this. Seems like 90% of the Flash I encounter on the web is advertising so I haven't missed it in my iPhone or iPad. Crap. This is sad news. Here is hoping Apple will enable the "Reader" function on the iOS Safari.

Steve Jobs Publishes Some "Thoughts On Flash"

enzo_romeo Re:He Is Quick to Forgive Apple, Of Course (944 comments)

Cool you got ClickToFlash to work. Every time I went to YouTube it crashed Safari so I uninstalled it. Might try monkeying around with it some more.

Steve Jobs Publishes Some "Thoughts On Flash"

enzo_romeo Re:He Is Quick to Forgive Apple, Of Course (944 comments)

Agreed. I'm glad there isn't Flash on the iPhone. 99% of it is just annoying ads. F-em. And thank you Steve Jobs for not having it on there.

What's the Best Way To Get Web Content To My TV?

enzo_romeo Re:Easy. (304 comments)

I've got an Intel Mac Mini connected to my Panasonic 50" 1080 Plasma via HDMI. Works great! Am using bluetooth keyboard and mouse, Apple remote, and EyeGalto EyeTV 250 to make the Mac a DVR. Nice because it records in HD and standard. Sound is going through my surround sound system, I never use the volume on the TV. This set up works well for watching Hulu, The Daily Show and Colbert Report on the browser. Plus I can watch DVDs and iTunes content as well.

Microsoft May Be Inflating SharePoint Stats

enzo_romeo Re:Screw Sharepoint (225 comments)

I agree, its too complicated to use efficiently its not intuitive at all. As a developer, I hate using it and building sites for it because its not easy to use and damn ugly. I've taken a couple of courses on it but its one of those things that if you don't use it, you forget how to do things. I think the only people that use it and like it on the organizations I've been with are Project managers. Everyone else just avoids using it all together. Funny, in a regional web developer (50 people) meeting about SP we all took a poll on if anyone had changed the default look and feel from the blue banners. Nobody had. It was basically a show and tell of horror stories of how long it takes to get it up and running (avg 8 months) and how crappy the manuals are (inaccurate and convoluted). My current employer is trying to set it up for an intranet for 12,000 employees and we've spent about 10 months on it and have to start from scratch since the route we took didn't quite work out. Its a cash cow for MS. They make a ton of money selling this piece of crap. I'm glad I don't have it at home.

The Most Useless Key On My Keyboard Is...

enzo_romeo Just pop the bad keys off the keyboard (939 comments)

I hated the windows key so much I removed it from my keyboard so I never accidentally hit the key when Im going for Alt or control. On my Mac, I also removed the Help key since its too close to the delete keys. It was pretty annoying when I'm trying to delete something and by missing and hitting the help key, the help application loads up. Kind of reminded me of Clippy. So bye bye "help" key. They pop right off and you never have to think about them again until someone makes a slashdot poll.

Rude Drivers Reduce Traffic Jams

I do too. No speed limits on the Autobahn and they have F1 and the Nurburgring. My recipe for an advanced civilization.

Rude Drivers Reduce Traffic Jams

enzo_romeo Re:passing (882 comments)

Hell yeah, well said. In Seattle the law seems to be "Stay left except to pass." Its crazy to see all the cars clustered over to the left all doing the same speed. Often times the far right lane is the one totally open and is the one to use to pass people. And I've talked with people here who think they are fully entitled to sit in the left lane. They say, "I'm doing the speed limit, there is no need for you to pass." Nice. Having driven the highways in Germany, France, and Italy I was amazed at how well the traffic moved. Everyone stayed to the right. They only used the left lane to pass a slower vehicle. It was impressive to see just how well the traffic moved; fast and efficient.
