Netcraft: Microsoft Closing In On Apache Web Server Lead

fak3r Re:But are these SharePoint sites? (102 comments)

New gig, all the docs are in SharePoint, have been for 5 years, and it's impossible to find anything, but if you do it's outdated. No bother, I'm making up new standards and procedure, and it's all written up in Markdown and getting checked into git/gitlab for easy viewing/editing by anyone.

Smart Car Tipping Trending In San Francisco

fak3r Re:Smart Cars = HiTech ??? (371 comments)

Is this another example of terrible Slashdot editorial comments distorting original story to "make news" as this alternative theory is not in the original source?

You must be new here.

BitTorrent Unveils Secure Chat To Counter 'NSA Dragnet Surveillance'

fak3r Re:closed source (111 comments)

I think this could be the phrase of the year, "That good old warped 80's tinfoil hat paranoia is the only thing that will save you anymore because it seems it was never wrong."

fak3r Debian GNU/Linux - sparc64 (281 comments)

I've run Debian on Ultra 1 and Ultra 5. OpenBSD is another option, I ran it on the Ultra 5 to run as a fw for a time.

I'm assuming 'fdisk /mbr' will wipe the boot sector, if not, please mock this post and call me a newb (since I haven't worked with/on Windows in years)

Use Google's Nexus 7 Tablet As a VoIP Phone, For Free

fak3r Same with an iPod Touch 4 (91 comments)

My son did this same thing last week on his iPod Touch 4 - sure it requires Wifi, but otherwise it 'just works' fine via Google Voice, so I don't know how this post is garnering this much attention, save for the Nexus 7 is the new/latest hotness.

Choosing the Right Security Tools To Protect VMs

fak3r Re:Ummm... (44 comments)

I'm with you, I've built a few networks of VMs, and my latest has an OpenBSD KVM host as the gateway - what is the fear this article is trying to perpetuate? Maybe it's BE AFRAID, BUY MORE NETWORK APPLIANCES!

Gmail Takes Largest Webmail Service Crown

fak3r Re:Own email server (383 comments)

Yes, this is also my reason. Spam was killing me 4 years ago when I still ran my own mailserver, and those addys were 5 years old then, now, I look at my Spam folder every now and then and can't believe the traffic.
